iTunes 10 and Volume Logic

Yes, I still use the old dinosaur Volume Logic and remember too well what happened when iTunes 7 rendered it useless and it took Plantronics months upon months to fix it. Since then, I have been very reluctant to update until I know for sure that the upgrade will not do the same thing. Is anyone else still using Volume Logic and already updated to version 10?

HP, Windows Vista, none

Wait, it's still working for you under iTunes 9?! I gave up on it after iTunes 7 because I couldn't get it to work properly. How did you get it working? Did you just install iTunes 9 and then volumelogic 1.3 (or 1.4 I think the newest one was?) as normal, or did you have to do some kind of secret fix to get it working?

If I could get this working again I'd be so happy.

I have a vague recolletion of getting it to work by downloading the demo version of another program (might have even been WOW), copying a particular file out of the package (which must have involved some other software) and replacing the older version of said file in Volume Logic. I found the instructions by searching online, I think. Or may have been on the Volume Logic support forum? It wasn't especially difficult and it did keep it going for another couple of updates.

There was a very short window when Plantronics actually came up with a fix and it worked for iTunes 7, but it was very unstable. It was just a week or two after that Plantronics gave up and pulled the plug on the software. I saved my product key from when I previously purchased it. You can actually find the version of Volume Logic 1.4 on a few download sites, but they are becoming harder to find. If you still have your product key, do a search and be sure you're finding version 1.4 and it will work with iTunes 9. Naturally, tread lightly on the download sites...some of them can be malicious.

I have a beta of 10.6.5 installed, along with iTunes 10.0.1, and have come up with a very easy way to get VolumeLogic installed and running in no time!

Make sure iTunes is not running before proceeding!

• Download the latest version of VolumeLogic here: http://bit.ly/c76nni

• Unzip and move the plug-in to "Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL."

• Repair permissions with Disk Utility.

• Afterwards, download the latest eSellerate engine (v4.0 at the time of this writing) here:
http://shopper.esellerate.net/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=5620
(The Mac v. should be the very first one in the list.)

• After it's installed, launch iTunes. VolumeLogic will say there's a product activation error, do you want to ty activating again? Click on Activate (or OK) and boom! Instant registration! No serial number, Terminal hacks, or poking into package contents.

Hope someone finds this very helpful! I've been using VL on both Windows and Mac for years! Greatest audio plug-in ever!
