disk repair

When I proceed with disk repair the following message appears " This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk, such as your Mac OS X installation disk and the use disk utilities to repair your disk"
How do I start up my computer with install disk? The only disk I have is Max OSX Snow Leopard, even though this is the orginial version will it still work without erasing any date?

Powermac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Put in your OS X install disc. Boot up while holding down C. After choosing the language to use, choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. You can then repair your hard drive from there. After it's done, just quit and restart. Nothing will be reinstalled or erased.
