Itunes 10 won't sync music to my iPhone 3GS 4.0.2

After I upgraded to iTunes 10, my iPhone will not sync any music apart from ONE album that I have purchased over the iTunes store.
All my other music I have in my iTunes will not sync, no matter what I try!

Is this a know problem and is there a way to make this work again?

And if not, how do I revert back to iTunes 9?

I figured this out after wanting to throw my iPhone 4 against the wall and hating Apple.

In the transition from iTunes 9 to iTunes 10, all your music gets unchecked. (Thanks, Apple for messing up my playlists.)

In order to sync anything over, it has to be checked. Go to the top of your Library to "Music". Make sure you are in that directory. Go to to "Edit" (usually at the top of your screen) then "Select All". Right click your mouse then "Check Selection". This will check your entire music library. Then you can sync your iPhone, iPod or what have you.

I still don't know why my iTunes recognized my iPhone as having 5.8 GB of audio on it when it had none. And I also don't know why Apple made this so difficult, did not inform its consumers, and made about two hours of my evening a living ****. Maybe the guy who designed the antenna got transferred to the iTunes division. Yaaay!!!!

I've had this problem with my iPhone 4 since updating to iTunes 10.

I get an error message 13019 when trying to sync. Online support suggests several things at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2830 but after trying everything here I had no success. The weird thing was, when removing all music from my iPhone, and then putting it back again, it only synced exactly what was there before. The new music I want to sync stays off my phone.

One other thing I noticed is that every time I tried to sync, my phone had a new, and empty, 'On The Go' and 'Genius' playlist created. Don't know if this means anything. I've gone through and deleted around 20 useless playlists.

Have successfully got the music onto a 30GB iPod (circa 2005) running software version 1.3 so must be something to do with the combination of iOS 4.0.2 and iTunes 10.

following my previous post - some more clues:

Today I downloaded the new Netflix app to my iphone, using my iphone. That DID sync back to my computer - but when I tried to re-arrange the apps using iTunes that change did not sync back to my iPhone. I checked in console and found this:

Sep 4 19:30:21 <<mycomputer's name>> com.apple.usbmuxd[50]: MuxSendToClient send failed for 0x4-17bdbc06ef283c6285f2d8521be78d38fe3c5a34@0xfd100000:53591->0x10031bd10-iTun es/com.apple.iTunes:36353: 32 - Broken pipe

From

"broken pipe" is a real general error just meaning that the transfer cannot be completed for one reason or another.. i'm sure there are many many reasons you might get that message.. you may want to search on this site or on google for different causes/solutions.

I think I'll revert to 9.2.1 - which I found here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1056

I'll report back how it goes.

SUCCESS!

I'm still in my downgrade state = iTunes 9.2.1 and as reported only a slight improvement.
My next step was to restore my iPhone. That did it!
Restore option: choose the backup file to complete the restore - relatively painless. Now, in 9.2.1, things are working correctly.

My question is if I had iTunes 10 installed and had tried the restore what would happen? I'm not going to be so brave right now to upgrade back to iTunes 10 - too many hours invested already. I'll let things keep working in the 9.2.1 world for now and see how things progress for iTunes 10. I should have known better than to be a guinea pig and upgrade to the new version on the first day ... If it ain't broke - don't fix it!

(PS - I did not see that check-box issue in my world. For me that was not the problem)
