Error 2 - Apple application support missing

Dear advisors!

I get the error 2 message everytime I click on the Itunes icon and also AFTER I reinstall the installer. Do you have any advise on the problem I'm experiencing??

THanking you
Nadia

P.S. I've tried install iTunes10 although my computer previously had another version (not sure which). Should I try to reinstall the one I had?

No apple support application is not in my add/remove program list. I have apple mobile support application. I do recall deleting the apple support application during a clean up when it said that it was rarely used, etc.

Every time I start up iTunes it says:
Apple Application Support was not found.
Apple application support is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install again.
Error 2 (Windows error 2).

So I download iTunes 10 and ran it. It gives me a repair or remove option. I select Repair (would my mp3s that are all stored in the iTunes folders disappear if I select Remove?). After I've selected Repair it goes through all steps and to the end and it says iTunes has been successfully installed and then I click OK or something to close that screen and then I get that same Error 2 message.

Can I just install the apple application support file separately?

Interesting.

By way of experiment, we're going to try a "standalone" Apple Application Support install. This is going to be a slightly involved process.

First, uninstall iTunes again.

Now launch your Apple Software Update (Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update). *Do not install anything just yet.*

In ASU, go "Tools > Open Downloaded Updates folder". Delete any files that are currently in there.

Go back into the main Apple Software Update screen. Check the iTunes 10 entry in the list. Now go "Tools > Download only".

After the downloads complete, go back into the downloaded updates folder. Doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi file to start the standalone Apple Application Support install.

Does it go through okay, Nadia? If so, try launching iTunes again. Does it launch without the error 2 this time?

If you get an error on the standalone AAS install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

I am having the exact same problem as nadia and that solution did not work for me. I am still getting the same error message when i click on itunes.
When i installed application support by itself, the install stops at the "Publishing product information" step and gives me this message,

An error occurred during the installation of assembly "Microsoft.vc80.crt,version="8.0.50727.4053",type="win32",publickeytoken="1fc8b 3b9a1e18e3b",processor architecture="x86".

Any help is appreciated

Good, now we know the nature of the trouble with the AAS install.

In general, these ones tend to be caused by underlying problems on the PC that can prevent Windows Updates from installing. So my main strategy with them is to try to fix the Windows Update issues. If we can get Windows Updates flowing again, that generally clears up the iTunes install errors +en passant.+

Head into your Windows Update, and check for any new updates. Do any fail? If so, open your Update History and doubleclick on the failure entries to bring up a small box with alphanumeric error message codes. Are you getting 8000FFFFs? (They often seem to be associated with an iTunes-install 0x8007054f.)

If you're getting 8000FFFFs, try the following Microsoft document:

[Windows Update Error 8000FFFF|http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Windows-Update-Error- 8000FFFF]

Head back to Windows Update, and see if you can get Updates to install successfully this time. If you can get updates now, stock up on any updates you're behind on. Once you're completely up to date in that regard, try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

Hi. Im having an error too when i try to install itunes so i tried the standalone but the same error message turns up:

An error occured during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,version="8.0.50727.4053",type="win32",publicKeyToken="1fc8b 3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="x86". Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x80070424

I also tried going to windows updater and look for those failed installations which could block the use of Itunes but it did not help either.

What should i do?
