Q: Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic question

With iPod Nano, you can plug in the headphones for radio reception. Is the radio receiver in the headphones, or does the iPod have the receiver built into it ?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4), iPod touch with iOS 4
