Safari Bookmark sub-sub folders?

Hi All.

I have a very large series of bookmark folders that I imported from my PC and I have a very well organized set of /new/ folders in my "bookmark bar". I use these constantly now but need to retain the old folders so that I can sort through them at some point. Right now when I go to save a bookmark in a bookmark bar folder I have to see all the old folders which is very distracting.

Is there a way to put all my old folders in an "old bookmarks folder" so that they don't /all/ show up when I try and do a save? Right now when I create an "old bookmarks" folder I am not able to drag and drop the folders next to it (the old ones) into it on the left hand side of the bookmark pane.

Also, I've read up a little on this but can someone explain the drag and drop procedure to me? Should I be able to select a bookmark folder in the bookmark pane (as described above) and simply drag it to somewhere in the top left - say into say the bookmark bar in the collections menu?

And what exactly is the "bookmark menu" in the collections menu?

THanks!

It's very frustrating I agree.
I'm not sure of the steps, being I just tried, but do play around in Firefox and you might be able to not only import your bookmarks, but not have all child folders showing vs just the parent.

Another benny there is you can edit/create folders on the fly.
Why Safari limits a basic function is beyond me.
Just be careful messing with Safari bookmarks, they can vaporize w/o notice.

Good Luck

To simplify creating new folders within bookmarks,

select the folder you want it under,
and make that folder diamond face down first.
At bottom of window is '+' icon..
Click on '+' will make a new folder and you can give it a new title.

You can also do it from Bookmark Tab /Add New folder.

If you want to change the title / click the folder text twice, and rename it.
Click outside of folder saves it.

What's missing is the ability to color the parent folder, as this would speed up the process when you have several hundred folders that break out to child view making the parent hard to find.
The best I've been able to do is put a star icon in front of parent folders.

Cheers

Hi All.

Many, many thanks.

OK. Let's see.

Does anyone know what the "Bookmarks Menu" under Collections is exactly? I don't show anything int this icon when I select it.

Also, right now I have selected the Bookmarks Bar and clicked on the + symbol at the bottom. This gives me a folder that I have renamed "Old Bookmarks". Now I am dragging and dropping the folders that contain my old Bookmarks - shown under "Bookmarks" (which is below "Collections") to the NAME of the "Old Bookmarks" folder that is shown on the Bookmarks Menu. I can't do this to the icon under Collections because it won't drop in here (which is totally bizarre to me).

1. Can anyone explain what the interaction is here between the Bookmarks and the Bookmarks Menu? I show all my folders in Bookmarks but I show nothing under Collections under Bookmarks Menu.
2. If I wanted to put something in Bookmarks Menu, how do I do it?
3. Is there a way to get Safari to MOVE the folders to the name of the folder in the Bookmarks Bar instead of copying it?

Thanks.
