DVI out to analog device????

I want to show my class iMovies I made via an old analog TV in the classroom that is connected to a VCR. I have a Mimi DVI port on my G3 laptop but don't know what cable and or converter box I might need to connect to the video port on the VCR to then see the iMovie.

Can this be done? Please help me figure this out. Thanks, TMagee

As I said, it depends on which iBook you have.

That cable also goes by the identification as Apple Part #922-4559:

That cable only works with the older iBooks G3. For later models of iBooks with 16 MB or more of VRAM, that cable will not work.

I went to the Apple store and they sold me a mini-VGA to video adapter. It doesn't work. I tried the "detect monitor" in preferences but it detected nothing. What am I doing wrong? I tried on my new flat screen TV and a older analog TV and neither way works. Does the one you suggest allow you to use the older analog TV/VCR's or is it just for digital?

Thanks, T

No, the cable that stbr51 uses with the 500 MHz iBook will not work with the 700 MHz model.

You need the Apple Video Adapter:

Is that the one they sold you? If so, you also need a composite (RCA) video or s-video cable. All the adapter does is give you the ports you need to plug the cable into.

Since the Apple Video Adapter is video only, you also need an audio Y cable to get the audio from the headphone port and to the TV (or VCR > TV). The TV (or VCR) must be equipped with the ports (including the audio-in port) necessary to get this done.
