External monitor static when waking from sleep
Any ideas on what might be the issue and how I might resolve it?
Thanks for the help.

I've had this issue again and again with my MacBook Pro 15" Late 2011. Did tons of research and found so many ideas on why it was doing this. It happens after the MacBook Pro has gone to sleep and then wakes up and very rarely after a restart. Usually a restart will fix the issue for a little while but inevitably the laptop will go to sleep and its back. First I thought my cable was bad so I bought the expensive Apple Branded cable and still no luck then thought it was due to heat as the laptop was a little too warm, bought a HiRise still no luck. I even tried other monitors, still no luck. I gave up for a while because I figured it was just a bad port on my MacBook, which it still might be, but I have finally found a way to make the flickering/static go away for months on end. Inevitably it still rears its head but at least I am not rebooting a few times a day any more. I found this web site which explains how to do a SMC reset and also claimed to solve my issue. I followed the instructions and to my surprise this actually fixed the issue.
