Deauthorized computer still plays purchased content

I'm having a problem with my laptop (one of the 3 of 5 computers I have authorized to play my iTunes purchases). I am going to take it in to Best Buy for service, and before I did that I wanted to deauthorize this machine so my music can't be ripped while it's there, and in case they had to wipe Windows (I didn't want to waste an authorization).

When I deauthorize the computer, some of my purchases stop playing and require me to reauthorize, but some other things I bought still play, despite me deauthorizing the computer.

Why?!?

Sounds like itunes thinks they were purchased under a different account.

Take a look at the summary tab for one that will NOT play.
Right click > Get Info
Look at the Purchased By and Account Name.

Then compare that to a song that still plays. There might be some tiny difference, like one has a capital letter in it and the other does not.

Hi Katrina,

They have the exact same info.

The only thing I see different between the ones that play and the ones that don't play is the ones that don't play have "FairPlay Version" listed under Get Info, while the ones that still work don't have that.

AH, That would be the difference between original 128kbps *Kind = protected* songs, and the newer itunes plus 256kbps *Kind = Purchased* songs without the DRM.
