My data usage is still going up even if when I'm using my wifi

It appears that receiving data is going up more than my sent data usage. It says that I sent about 1.1 mb and received 13 mb. But last night it said that I received 8.6 mb but sincerest night all I used was my wifi. Can anyone help explain this? Btw is the 2 g data plan mean 2 g total. Pth sending and receiving dat or is it for how much receive alone or send alone?

If the phone is on standby WiFi is off, so even if you are within a WiFi zone the phone will use 3G.

So basically my iPhone is using data when I'm not using it? So how do I stop it? Lol

Are you seeing the usage on your bill or on the iPhone? If it's on the bill there is a very long thread on this subject with no clear resolution. If it is on the phone you most likely have mail set to retrieve automatically or to push. And/or you have apps that use notifications.

I am seeing the usage on the phone and I do have email/apps notifications turned on. So i assume if I were to turn off these notifications my usage will stop creeping up at night?

Yes, it should stop. You can also just turn off cellular data.
