Macbook Pro keeps dropping internet connection

I am hoping that someone here can help me out. I am getting so frustrated!! My Macbook Pro, purchased in 8/7/09, connects to the internet through a wireless connection with no problems upon startup, but after anywhere between 5-30 minutes, it isn't connected anymore. If I turn off airport for a couple of minutes and then turn it back on via the icon in the upper right hand corner of the screen, then I regain my connection, but it eventually times out again and I have to repeat the same process. Throughout the problem, the airport icon always shows a full four bars for my wireless connection. Why is this happening and is there a way to fix it? My ipod touch and crappy old PC do not have this same problem.

This is my main computer and I depend on it for my college school work amongst many other things. Today, I almost lost an entire online quiz due to this problem. There is not reason for a machine that I paid $1,300 for should give me such crappy service. It is infuriating and is making me question ever buying any more apple products.

Does anyone have any advice? Am I missing something easy here?

Thanks.

Similar situation - no solutions yet. I did try disconnecting everything from the MacBook Pro - external Samsung monitor, external back-up drive, keyboard and Canon printer. And, wireless Apple mouse. Been like that all day and not dropped connection once. It was suggested that I might have the laptop too close to the wireless router ( Verizon). but I'm actually closer now - 4' vs 6' - so that doesn't work. I will work like this for a day or two and see what happens. I updated the software/firmware on the router but it didn't make any difference. Will add the external devices back one every few days and see what happens. It was sporadic at times to begin with. Know what you mean by "frustrating".

I just got my 13 inch Macbook Pro yesterday. My internet connection works fine on two other computers in the house, but my brand new mac can't seem to get pass the start up page in Safari. My ipod touch has no problem. I've contacted apple and was told to do a systems update. After I did that, the problem continues. They mentioned that it might be because I'm running it on a WEP encryption rather than a WPA. Hoping for a solution soon.

What router? Make sure you have the latest firmware for it. It might help if you included some info about your set up in the My Settings to the right---------->. When you bought your MBP says nothing. Model type, ram, etc. can be helpful. Have you tried at hot spots like Starbucks? I understand your frustration and it's appropriate to express it but the rest of the diatribe is just a rant. If you keep to the issues and post as much info as possible and what you have tried folks here are more apt to try and help.
