iPod not showing up when plugged in computer

Hi everyone,
I connected my 2nd gen iPod touch into my brand new laptop the other day, but nothing happened. I hear the default do-di windows sound to notice me it has detected a new device, but that's it. My iPod isn't charging, and I can't see my iDevice in iTunes.
I have contacted HP support, but their solution didn't work. I have the lastest version of iTunes installed on my computer. I am an advanced user, so I tried everything I could think about to fix this.
I would really appreciate to get it fixed before I get the new iPod touch 4g ^^
Thank you,
Bobiolik

Reset your iPod.
Retry with a different USB or FireWire port.
Restart your computer and make sure you have the latest software updates installed.
Remove iTunes software and then reinstall iTunes software from latest versions on the web.
Restore your iPod. See “Updating and Restoring iPod Software” in the user's guide.

If this doesn't work, you can check more about it here
