I got this solution from Apple...

This is John from the iTunes store. I'm sorry to hear that you are unable to select the Apps tab when you connect your iPhone 4. I know how important it can be to manage your apps, and I'm here to help.

To resolve this, I recommend uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. Before beginning, please back up your iTunes library as explained here:

To uninstall iTunes, please follow the steps in this article:

Removing iTunes for Mac OS X

After you've uninstalled iTunes and removed the related files, you will need to reinstall it. You can download the latest version free of charge from the iTunes website:

After you've reinstalled iTunes, please ensure you have the latest version of QuickTime installed. You can find the latest version here:

I didn't try it... if you do, let me know the outcome.

Good luck.

Hey Nate,
I created an account just to give you some help...
Have had the same problem you are experiencing. Running latest imac, itunes 10. iphone3gs with 4.1
Up until a couple of days ago all was good, no issues. Then out of the blue tried to sync a couple of new apps & itunes crashed when I clicked 'apps' tab in user's iphone.
Re-installed itunes 10, no dice. Restored iphone & all seemed ok again... 'apps' tab did not crash itunes... Hoorah! Until I tried a second time... crash!!!
48hrs later, with much searching online, call to Apple (who had heard nothing of this)... it suddenly dawned on me; Drag on drop. Open your apps from itunes sidebar & drag app to user's iphone. Done. Works a treat. The only downside is that you will have to organise your synced apps from your phone.
Hope this all works out. Sorry for being long winded, I work in publishing, enough said.
Cheers & goodbye,
Getdead.

After following this same procedure.

Well i know this was very frustrating for me as I still had this issue, but didn't give up?

_*In short my problem existed from a restore from backup, probably corrupted or missing somehow. So I had the fun task of setting up as new the only hard part was the contacts argghh.*_

Read on if you wish of my dilemma.

*I followed all of the usual procedures from the basic rebooting the iPhone, to fully wiping itunes off my mac three times, to no avail, as well as restoring my iPhone twice.*

What I then realised is, it was working properly without crashing after a restore, but when I restored from a back up I noticed it would crash.

So what I did was made sure all my purchases where transferred to my mac.

+_*Connecting iphone>>right clicking on my device>>selecting and clicking on "Transfer Purchases"*_+

Proceeded to transfer purchases that way, I already had music backed up on my mac, as for contacts I wrote them all down (arggh).

*_Then i proceeded to restore iphone, NOT FROM BACK UP!!, then once restored clicked on setup as new_*

Clicked on apps tab, "YAY" works "YAY", like ok!! lets disconnect a few times and reconnect, turn off computer, restart, reboot phone, and still worked fine.

But when I tried restoring from back up it crashed.

_*No I wasn't Jail Broken, just updated to iOS 4.1.*_

Hope this helps for some, and sorry for the long comment.

Dear All,

I do not know whether this thread has already been answered properly or not. But I do have the solution to why the "Apps" Tab for the iPhone causes iTunes 10 to crash.

It seems that iTunes 10 hates the idea of iPhone users having a "Blank Screen"... So when I mean blank screen, I refer to users who like to keep on page of their iPhone screen "Apps" free and probably want to show off those darn cool wallpapers (which is what I am a victim off).

I found this solution online and thought at first that this could not be the solution, but come to think of it, iTunes 10's predecessor, iTunes 9+ was able to sync "Apps" even though you had a "blank screen" with the exception that you needed to rearrange the apps all over again in order to get a blank screen (provided you changed a location of an app from iTunes).

so I would think that most users (now with iTunes 10) having this problem of crashes with your iTunes due to clicking on the App button, would probably have a blank screen... Give it a shot and see whether it works...

Note: Any Apple support team reading this, take note... WE LOVE BLANK SCREENS~!!! fix it!

sorry for the lengthy reply... =)
