I have iChat 5 on Snow Leopard. I recently accidentally deleted my iChat and had to reinstall it with the original Snow Leopard disk. I am pretty sure that I have not been able to instant message since this. When I double click on a contact's name, type something in the chat box, and hit enter, the cursor goes away but the text stays in the box without sending. Also, when people try to send me messages, I do not receive anything. I have tried deleting my .Mac account from iChat and re-entering it, but nothing has worked.
Please help!!!

Hi,

Download an Install th COMBO Installer to Update iChat to 10.6.4 (iChat 5.0.3)
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1048

There have been updates to IChat and it needs to match the OS level.

    Hi,

Is there a particular reason you are still at OS 10.5.1 ?

If not then Update to 10.5.8

    Hi,

I deleted and re-installed my iChat because the Instant Messaging wasn't working. After re-installing, it still doesn't work, because I tested with a friend and whenever I type and send or when my friend types and sends, nothing shows up on my screen (but it does on my friend's end).

I have tried setting up different accounts (2 @mac.com & 1 AOL), but they all respond in the same way. My software is OS X 10.5.8 and my iChat is 4.0.8.

I would appreciate it if anyone could help.

I am having AIM service error issues - besides iChat is disconneting more often than "usual". Probably one of that AOL servers is having problems...again

    Hi,

So you Reinstalled iChat AND updated it using the COMBO update Installer (to get to iChat 4.0.8)

If you go to the View Menu and Drop down to Messages and select a different IM Style (Boxes, Compact etc) does the issue go away ?

If that is the case then use these Instructions to Reinstall the Support folders as well (InstantMessage.framework and VideoConference.framework), in the Possible Problems and Hard Way info.

You will need to re-run the COMBO Updater to update those from the Install Disk Level as well.

    Hi,

Try deselecting the SSL option in iChat, in any AIM Login (iChat Menu. Preferences > Accounts) You need to be logged out first.

The SSL server is more prone to "falling Over" then the regular server.

    Dear Mr. Johns,

Unfortunately, the problem does not go away when I change the style of the message boxes.

    Yours sincerely,

    A. Chuang

    Hi,

The Words These Instructions should have been a Link in my last post.

I have made sure they are now linked.

You need the "Hard Way" (Using Pacifist) and Possible Problems section to Install the Support Folders and then Re-run the COMBO.
(the Hard way is not hard - just more complicated than a plain App Reinstall)
