Software Update Issues with digital signatures

Lately, I cannot upgrade any Apple software using the Software Update because I get an error message similar to the one I just received while trying to upgrade Safari to 5.0.2: "The update 'Safari' can't be saved. The digital signature on the update is missing or invalid". I am able to create a second admin account and update the software using that account, which means the problem is with my main admin account. After exhaustively searching the forums, I've tried all sorts of things, but nothing seems to fix the issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.

I am having the same issue with the digital signature (does not recognized it to up date software) and can't find a reasonable answer all around the web

Hey guys from MAC...would you please try to answer something, anything on this issue or do we just have to go express line and pay for it?

thanks.

My wife is having exactly the same problem with a brand new MacBookPro 13". After a long download of OS X 10.6.4 this dialog appears.
----------------
The update “Mac OS X Update” can’t be saved.
The digital signature on the update is missing or invalid. The update may have been tampered with since being signed by Apple. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs.
----------------
Updates for Safari, iTunes, iWork and everything else from Apple generates the same error message as above. The hard disk is populated by files brought to the machine from her old PowerBook G4 using migration assistant.

When I tried to launch DiskUtility, Spotlight launched the version for the Powerbook (shouldn't that have been erased during migration). Using the correct version of DiskUtility there are a huge number of permissions that need repair; that's just finished. And the disk verifies.

Now I just downloaded 10.6.4 and received the same message.

Other than sending this message to Apple, is there anything else that can be done?

Ok, still on the update issue: I just downloaded the 10.4.6 update combo directly from Apple's website, not through Software Update.

When it is finished downloading the installer opens and immediately issues a very helpful statement saying the software comes from a site that cannot be verified as trustworthy (or something like that).

Is Apple starting to have issues with itself?

Apple is the company, Mac(intosh) is just the name of one of their products. These are user to user forums, Apple is not here (except for a few moderators). For feedback, you can use their product feedback page at http://www.apple.com/feedback/

Well the local Apple guy at the University was able to solve the digital signatures problem that prevented successful downloads from software update.

The problem arose on a new MacBook Pro. I had migrated the data and settings from a Powerbook G4. After false(?) starts reinstalling the system from the install DVD and turning on the firewall, his guess was that the user preferences from the G4 were the problem. We created a new administrator and restarted.

Software update now works.

Hope this might work for someone else.
