don't want iphoto to launch.... other option to import photos?
when i plug in my camera, iphoto automatically launches and i cannot find evidence of my camera anywhere else but in iphoto. i would like to import my photos/videos from my camera to my desktop, not to iphoto. how do i do this?
Open iPhoto and select Preferences from the iPhoto menubar.
Under the General Tab, select Connecting camera opens
1) iPhoto
2) Image Capture
3) Nothing
and select either #2 or #3 above.
Another alternative is to install whatever software your digital camera maker provides.

if i select nothing, is there anyway i can locate my camera, open, and save it's contents (most importantly, videos) to a folder on my hard drive or desktop?
Is it a Canon? Canons (and some Kodaks) don't mount on the desktop - it's a "feature" of the brand. Pop the card from the camera into a USB Card Reader and it will appear on the desktop, or use Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) or the software that came with your camera.
