Speed improvements with 4.1

I bought myself a 3gs and now I remember why I loved Iphone in the first place.

This is a great write up, good find.

We've heard about speed improvements and bug fixes on the 3G but not on the 3Gs... is there any information around that might indicate that those of us with the newer model might get some of the performance and stability back that we had under OS3?

I still have a concern because 4.01 and 4.02 both sowed over time. Rebooting improved speed a lot, only to slow down again after a day or too.

These reviews only look at a fresh 4.1 and not a 4.1 after 2,3 or even 5 days.

We need a report on that aspect before I would upgrade.

I have serious issues with my phone now it takes ages even to txt I used to love my phone but if late is is becoming a serious pain in the arse

James I didn't last a week and downgraded to 3.1.3 very easily and successfully. Hopefully 4.1 will fix it but who knows.

I have absolutely no idea what that article is talking about with regards to typing speed. On my 3G with 3.1.3 there is no lag to my typing, no matter how fast I type. I have just tried tapping as fast as I can using two hands, on just two letters. no missed letters or lag. Its instant. Typing is perfection for me.

I have 6 pages of apps, I'm forever buying more, apps com and go off my phone all the time. I have never restored my phone or done any other sort of maintenance to my phone in two years of ownership.

I just don't understand how folk's experiences with their iphones can vary so much! Perhaps the moral of the story is that we can't always judge what our phones will be like from articles, forum posts, etc. We just have to try it for ourselves and cross fingers firmly.

Having said that I'm sticking to v3.1.3 on the 3G. Two many horror stories for me, and besides the iphone 4 is calling me to buy 😉

I agree Thomas. I never had any lag in 3.1.3 and after retreating to 3.1.3 again from 4.0.1 it speeds along again 🙂 I had a week or so of a nightmare phone before I downgraded.

Updated. Proximity Sensor not working. Text still waits to open. I can't use my phone as a phone. I'm done Stevie.

Hi im new here im not happy that i can only add 1 custom ringtone now i have updated i used to have 5 or 6 different ones possible would of held more never tried but only 1 now so not happy as the standard tones are not very good

Howardsweb posted what I've been thinking all week. I did the "restore as new device" route several weeks ago which fixed all of my iPhone's sluggish behavior, and I'm not about to revert back to an unhappy situation until I know that it's safe.
