Failure to Determine Kerberos Principle Name

I have been directed to look at the Ticket Viewer accessed via “KeyChain Access“, with regard a Console readout:

“loginwindow[2408] in pam smauthenticate(): Failed to determine Kerberos principal name.”

However there are no tickets (should there be?). The only option available is the Add Identity, but as I have no idea what to enter in these fields, hence my asking.

OK I found this thread which provides some insight into Kerberos:

Mac OS X 10.5: About Kerberos in Mac OS X 10.5 clients

http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24992

And this which shares some similarities to my original post (especially the penultimate post by JamesHT 11 July 2010):

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2463303

However, the final post by macbig 12 July 2010 offers a link to a solution:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3265

“Mac OS X Server v10.6: Kerberos KDC location specified in krb5.conf is not respected“

So here I go then... throwing out some system file (albeit at Apple’s recommendation)... OK, so don’t try to stop me... No no, I’ve made my mind up... It‘s just something I have to do... So here goes then.... I can‘t look...
