I just purchased the new 6th generation iPod nano and I am very dissatisfied. In all of my previous iPods, there has been the ability to shuffle by albums. That is how I listen to music, complete albums not just individual songs. This new nano does not allow you to shuffle by album. It shuffles by song only. As much as I like the touch screen interface, the lack of album shuffle will force me to return this product. I really wanted to like the new nano. Unfortunately the lack of one feature ruins the whole experience for me.

I'm curious about the Album Shuffle feature as well.

I was looking through the User Guide for the new Nano and on page 28 it says:

*Shuffling Songs*
You can play songs, albums, or playlists in random order, and set iPod nano to shuffle songs when you give it a quick shake.
To set iPod nano to shuffle and play all your songs:
Tap Songs on the iPod nano Home screen, and then tap Shuffle at the top of the Songs list.

This seems to imply that you can shuffle albums. Is there an "Albums" option on the Home screen? Can you go in there and then tap Shuffle?

I don't recall being able to do this on the last Nano. I just went and looked at mine, but when you are at the list of album view, there is no "Shuffle" option to work from. I can select an album, then shuffle the contents. However, I cannot set it to play an entire album then select another random album and play all of the tracks on that album and so on.

What was the last iPod you saw this feature on?

This feature has been on all the iPods I have owned; iPod classics, 4th generation iPod nano and 5th generation iPod nano. I have always been able to access it on the settings page. It had a separate line in order to toggle off, songs and albums. You could also set it using the center button of the click wheel. I returned my 6th generation iPod nano at the Apple Store I purchased it at. I told them why I was returning it and they understood. Perhaps if any Apple employees read this thread, they will pass along to the powers that be that everyone listens to music in a different way. Please do not remove options when "improving" the line. It seems that invariably those improvements end up as detriments.

It's definitely something they could fix with a firmware update but I wouldn't hold my breath. The iPhone and the iPod Touch both have the code to do album shuffle but it can't be selected from the menu. If you jailbreak them, you can enable album shuffle without that (or a third party app), you can't.

I have no idea if the code for the new Nano has album shuffle built in. I wouldn't be surprised if it did. I also wouldn't be surprised if they never bother fixing it.
