there isn't a way to delete it as it is part of the native app.

No, he made a "suggestion" to use a setting that doesn't exist, let alone not work. It wasn't a simple mistake but an outright fabrication. In fact, the forum Terms of Use state that you should verify solutions by testing yourself before posting.

Your snarky "wannabe host" remark was not only totally off mark, but actually reflective of yourself. Keep your cognitively impaired opinions about other forum members to yourself.

Thank you FoxFifth! Enabling Restrictions, then setting the two Game Center entries in Restrictions to OFF worked for me! It no longer pops up several times (slowly at that) each time I load my game or wake my phone back up. This will shave several extremely annoying seconds off my game usage multiple times a day. Thank goodness I found this thread.

Not really replying to you, wayne, but you were the last one in line, LOL.

Now that the fisticuffs appear to be over (from August), I'll post what someone did on the first page of this thread: http://www.apple.com/feedback/

I just sent Apple an earful about the intrusive Game Center on my iPhone and iPad. Give us a way to just turn it OFF! Now, we'll just wait for the next iOS, or 10, to come out, to see if they listened.

People, send feedback that you want it fixed. I chose Configurability, but you can choose Enhancement Request or whatever else floats your boat (there really should be a Complaint option, but there's not). If more people send them feedback, maybe they'll listen. My feedback included a promise (it wasn't a threat) to jailbreak my iDevices and start purchasing my Games anywhere but Apple. I'm just waiting for an untethered version for iOS 5. In the meantime, I've stopped playing and buying any games, or even installing ones from the Free App/Game of the Day sites.

Stick a fork in me; I'm done...until it's corrected. Dang! I HATE having to jailbreak my iDevices. Never considered it until now. I can see why so many do it.

N.B. To all the hall monitors: I'm not an idiot. I don't need to be told NOT to delete the Game Center. I already know better.

"Are you on iOS 4.2.1 and have you set Settings > General > Restrictions > Game Center Multiplayer Games & Adding Friends both to OFF? That got rid of the Game Center sign in / Cancel screens for me.

iPhone 4, iOS 4"

Thanks FoxFifth. If only that suggestion had been answered 7 pages ago instead of the fanboys being obnoxious and arrogant about the request, I might acutally care a little more for the apple community. Sadly, as much as people like to bash MS, you don't see this kind of attitude in their forums when someone has a similar request. It's not the product I dislike and that was the best suggestion I've seen in this post.

I've had the iTouch for a long time and never realised how powerful that functionality was. Now that I have an iPad, it's even more helpful. Those restrictions are now added, and as a bonus, I also discovered that by turning certain app restrictions on/off that IOS will also hide/unhide those apps. Now if only I can get them to add the same functionality to the News Stand. Off to the feedback pages I go.

I'm another one who can't stand Game Center, or cr@pware of any kind. I'd very much like the option to delete (along with news stand). Feedback already sent to Apple, but they don't seem to have taken similar feedback on board from others...

For the record, iOS 5 with multiplayer and adding friends both set to off does not stop this stupid software asking me to sign in every time I load a game. This seems to be deliberately designed to annoy. Great work, Apple.

To be fair, I don't think the issue lies entirely in Apple's hands. I've come to the conclusion that even though the Game Center 'appears' to be the culprit, I'm inclined to take a look at the individual App developers as well. There are games that are 'Game Center' enabled that don't bother me at all. I've done as another member here stated and about half the games I play don't pesture me anymore, yet the other half still does. I get everything from errors to constant reminders that my Game Center is or appears to be disabled. Well, duh! Of course it's disabled--'I' disabled it.

Perhaps rather than just sending Feedback to Apple, it might also benefit to let the individual App developers know how annoying this 'feature' is as well. I've actually started letting developers know in hopes that I can at least get the message out that they don't have to 'get rid of it'. However, it would be nice if they would 'fix it', realising that not all of us are so pathetic that we need to share 'everything' we're doing at all times.

Personally, I'm comfortable enough with myself to not feel the need to seek out constant reassurances, be it through people, social networking, trophies, encouragements, etc...

Anyways, it would be nice if developers would realise that not everyone is a clone of the mass corporate mind, and they're not likely to know if people don't tell them (tactfully, of course).

In reply to Kreme, that's a fair argument, but a simple ability to delete (or at least totally disable) Game Centre would improve the useability no end. And the user experience is what Apple prides itself on.

If they want to include Bloatware, fine. But at least give the option to delete it. I have no deisre to have Game Center, Nike, Stocks or Newsstand wasting memory space on my phone.

No, not at all. Game Center is built into the iOS and the API's are used by app developers. Removing or disabling Game Center would require that ALL Games that address it be recoded and recompiled. It's far too late for that, and if you're holding your breath, be sure someone around you knows CPR.

What Modular is saying is basically what I was saying. Apple didn't program the annoyances into the apps. The App Developers did. If you are having an issue with an App that is persistent about the Game Center after you've disabled it, the App Developer is the one you need to contact.

Getting rid of the Game Center won't get rid of the annoyances in your individual apps because the 'Tie' to it (for lack of a better word) is already programmed into the individual apps themselves, 'not' the Game Center.

Apple simply offered a functionality that some people actually do like. I can live with that. Unfortunately, the key word is 'some', not 'all'.

As for Bloatware, well, it's just something we've all had to deal with since computing started. I'm not a fan but it is what it is and it's likely here to stay. I don't like MS internet explorer or Apple's Safari (to name the basics). Yet they have their uses that we may not notice which is why there are no options to delete them. They're tied into the system just like the Game Center is. That's fine. I still use what I want to use and simply pretend that they don't exist.

Apple isn't perfect. No company is. In reality, they're a corporate entity trying to make a buck, and trying to please everyone simply isn't possible. Though, perhaps an ability to hide the offending apps wouldn't be such a bad idea.

All the same can be said for the Newstand. I use it. I also realise that I'm not everyone. It's really nothing more than a folder which is why it can't be put in other folders. This is also a nuissance. Perhaps the ability to hide it would be enough to please the masses that don't want it. Me on the other hand, I would like to pop it into a folder. Perhaps subfolders can become a feature of a later iOS update to solve this issue. Two levels should be enough.
