Bothers me too, the more people who let Apple know the better the odds they will do something about it. Please let them know.

I'm glad to hear that being on 4.2.1 and setting the Game Center Restrictions worked for someone besides me. Given the number of ongoing complaints I was beginning to think I was the only one who somehow got rid of the annoyance of Game Center!

exactly.. any problems brought up about the precious iphone, end up with someone telling you its designed like that, or its not a feature of the iphone and then go on to tell you you should have got a different phone!! i asked a simple question about custom sms tones.. and got it

there you go..... people want their phone the way they want it not the way apple do.. every other phone has options to customise it the way the owner wants it...

why do people like you say it wrong for us to want our phones they way we want them i bought the phone its mine if i want to delete something then i should be able too

I didn't say it's wrong for you to want anything you want. It's just not a feature of this phone and if that's a big deal for you, my statement stands. It just may not be the phone you need. Nothing condescending, nor no offense meant. We're all just users and we don't design, nor control the OS and functions that are built into the iPhone. This is why we live in a world where there are multiple options. There's the iPhone, Droids, LTC's, Blackberries. All are good phones, none are right for everyone. Sorry if you didn't like my comment, but it was correct.

I like the iPhone, but as hundreds of others think, apple have put far too many restrictions on it, and they are simple things that most other phones do, ie custom sms tones, sending a picture to another non apple phone by bluetooth, all of which the iphone is capable of, sorry if you thought i was getting at you personally, i just used your comment because it was there.

I didn't take your use of my post personally. I've been around here for a while and have had my share of scrapes for sure. Cheers......

the problem i have with game centre is that it was not on the phone when i brought it. although i want customisable SMS etc, i knew it was not on the phone when i brought it. however, this was added in a later f/ware upgrade, but i cannot remove if i don't like it. for me that is very annoying. ibooks was added, but i can remove that if i want, which is fair enough.

This is completely ridiculous. When paying $400 for a phone, it's bad enough I can't add anything I want without SJ's explicit approval, but I should at least be able to DELETE what I don't want!! I want this stupid icon OFF my phone.

It is what it is. I have no use for Game Center either and if I could delete it I would. But since I can't, I've parked it in a folder and moved on.

I would suggest those of you that don't like Game Center, do the same. AND don't for get to take your meds.

What's being missed in this discussion is that on some iPods and iPhones, Gamecenter maintains a non-stop internet connection and drains the battery in 8-12 hours. The only way to avoid this is to reset the device and then NEVER use a game that accesses Gamecenter. Meds won't help.

Amen to that!! It is the biggest nuisance since, well,,, I can't think of a worse one. And it WILL NOT STOP BUGGING ME Keeps popping up when ever I play a game, and yes, I play a few,,,, but I DO NOT WANT TO LOG IN TO GAME CENTER!! AND IT WILL NOT LEAVE ME ALONE. Putting it a folder does nothing to halt it's obnoxious behavior. The guy that thought this one up should be taken out and shot, pure and simple.

I've left feedback about this to apple, and, I've set all the items pertaining to game center to "off" in restrictions.

    Guess what? ("what", you say)

It still keeps popping up. Insidious, evil, sneaky, worse than a virus!
  • tal1971 Level 2 Level 2 (245 points)
Not sure if this is any use but:

In Settings/General/Restrictions. At the very bottom is a small section called Game Center. There is 2 options here (Multi Player Games, Adding Friends, both of these can be switched on or off). I just wondered if both of these options were switched off, if this would stop the 'non stop internet connection' that franzkaiser mentioned earlier?
  • briegull Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)
No it doesn't. Even after resetting. How annoying!! Does anyone have one of those iphone browser apps that lets you see file structure?
