Use Tabs instead of separate windows. Command + T
That way you can switch between tabs with only one window open.
You may like Glims. Great features, free, and you can access it from Safari / Preferences.
Hi Andy, Carolyn.
I'm not getting CMD+H and CMDOptionM and Option+Minimize icon to /all/ only minimize one window. Is there a way to do this for all open windows for all apps? For instance these keys seem to minimize this one safari window but not my Postbox window or a Finder window. Any ideas?
Also, does anyone know if you can do the equivalent (minimize all folders / i.e. turn all the arrows to facing right) in Finder?

Check System Preferences / Keyboard - Keyboard Shortcuts.
Click: Restore Defaults.
Thanks for all your help. Tidying up here.
I discovered recently at the mac store that if i do a "four finger" brush upwards on my keypad all the windows minimize at the four sides of the screen so I can see my desktop.
Not sure if I was clear on my question or on all the answers but this seems to do it.
