How to "power off"/"shut down" nano?

I realize you can press the sleep button to put it in sleep mode.

Is there a way to shut down the nano like every other i-device, so that I can save my battery life?

Hello luthsane,
And welcome to Apple Discussions!

According to the *User Guide*, that's exactly how you power it off.
turn off iPod nano (press the Sleep/Wake button)

Check it out for yourself.

The user guide says "Note: iPod nano continues to use battery power after it’s been turned off."

This is just lame, IMO! So basically one would need to leave it plugged in all night if you want the battery to remain fully charged?

I really hope Apple addresses this with a software/firmware update!

Have to agree on this one; mine arrived yesterday & after minor use yesterday afternoon, turned it off. (or so I thought...) switched on this morning as I was walking out the door & was really surprised to see battery was at 1/2 power! Figured I'd done something wrong/didnt turn it off right/Hah! first apple product I feel somewhat jipped' by - not sure Im completely sold on this model now that I have it 'in my hands'. Apple please ADDRESS this issue with a software/firmware update if possible!

I have the 2nd generation of the Nano and I love it.

I passed the 3rd -- 5th gen Nano.

I want a small device whaich I can just clip on my shirt. I am not ineterested in video and game stuff - and 6th Nano WAS what I want. But after I read this discussion rgearding the power off issue, I canceled my order from Apple On-Line store. I think I will wait for the next fix or next generation.

The important question, to which I do not yet have an answer is, "How much battery life does it use while in the sleep state?" Apple may be covering themselves here. It may turn out that the amount it uses is barely noticeable. All lithium ion batteries will lose some charge just sitting around. It just takes a long time. Or it may be a lot. If the former, who cares if you can turn it off? Just got mine set up yesterday. I should know the answer fairly soon.
