Calendar on iPhone 3G iOS 4.1 still very slow to open

Since I went from iOS 3 to the terrible 4 also my iPhone 3G has been very slow.

The biggest problem however seems isolated: when I open the Calendar app, it takes a very long time for it to open. Initially it opens as quick as it used to, however then the screen goes blank with only the calendar header available. Then after what could be 10 to 20 seconds the app is functioning is again and the screen is filled with my calendar data. This happens every time I start the app.

I have just now updated to 4.1 to see if this issue is solved, but there has been no improvement here.

My Calendar is synced through MobileMe and I have 2 calendars. Before iOS 4 it worked perfectly well and smooth.

Am I the only one with this problem? If yes, could I solve it by a Recovery action and rebuild the iPhone?

Second that - I have a 3GS, and calendar works fine on the os3. Now it lags and hangs all the time, very annoying when I try to book appointments while having someone waiting on the line..

Fix it, Apple!!

Same for me on 3G and iOS 4.1

It seems it is also 100% slower than on iOS 4.0.2

Synced 1 calender with Microsoft Office on Windows 7, with around 5 entries every day.

Has anyone tried to Restore the iPhone and rebuild it from that? I get many reports from users that see a big improvement in the speed of their phone with iOS 4.1. But also lots that don't see any.

I don't see any speed results in iOS 4. I don't want to spend a few hours restoring the thing without any hope of improvement.

I've found a workaround for the calender: just quickly switch from agenda to day (or month) view and back to agenda. With this, the items are displayed directly.
With this, also calender is fast again.

After updating tot iOS 4.1 I have the same problem in the list mode. Sometimes it shows the calendar content for about half a second, then all appointments disappear - and don't return at all!
It does not happen in day or month view.

A workaround is to swicht from one view to the other and back, but this is not quality as we expect it. Calendar is the most important feature for me, after e-mail!

Btw: since updating tot iOS4, I also had the problem with appointments being shown in the wrong day (to be exact: the previous day with appointments). This bug has now been fixed. I'm not cheering however with this new big annoyance.

For me, it's worse than slow-iCal doesn't even work. I click on the icon, there's a blank screen, then it closes. Still a problem when restarting. Fortunately, there's google calendar which works nicely.

I second this bug.

The list view of calendars sometimes takes 10 seconds to show after updating to iOS 4.1.

Really really annoying.

I've had this same problem. Very annoying when you need your calendar quickly. Although clicking on a different view and then back does fix the problem, it still takes extra time.

This bug is unacceptable and needs to be fixed immediately. Did Apple not test the calendar under iOS 4?

This also happens to me -everytime since I've updated I have to change views to get my calendar to show up! WTH!!! never had this issue in the past on my 3G -why oh why did I upgrade 😟
Not to mention the CRAP battery life 😟

I should add that we've had the problem and we use iCal on Apple computers so the sync to iPhone 3G is all Apple to Apple. PS - I've heard from people so frustrated they got the iPhone 4 to replace the 3G - could Apple be using bugs as a marketing tool?

otobinchicago, in your case I would surely try a Restore. Core applications crashing like that is a sure sign of something really wrong in your iPhone.

Thanks all for the tip about the view-switching. It does help a bit and you look less clumsy when you want to make an appointment with someone.

Hi there! Same problem here. In April 2010 I bought my iPhone 3G with iOS 3.1.3 and I was enthusiast. Updating to iOS 4 I experienced poor performance of a sluggish phone with core apps working slowly. Updating to iOS 4.1 brought me back a responsive phone, but also the calendar issue. I've always used the List View and starting the app I realized that the list was empty. Quickly changing to Day/Month View and back to List View is a workaround I discovered by myself, but it's not what I expect from an Apple product. I've always synced my iPhone with my MacBook Pro 13" Mid-2009 shipped with Snow Leopard. Is anyone in Cupertino able to help people in this thread? Thanks in advance.

Same here as with others: 3G, iOS 4.1, Outlook Exchange. Opening the calendar, appointments appear, but can't be selected on scrolled...wait...appointments disappear...wait...appointments reappear and can be selected/scrolled. BUT, if the initial view mode is list, appointments often never reappear - but can be viewed after a switch to a different calendar view. Purely awful. If Apple won;t fix this, then give me a way to 'officially' roll back to OS 3.x.

Same problem here. I will probably not update the OS when I upgrade to the newest iPhone. It's just not worth it, you'll never get the same snappiness back.

Today I had a client on the phone and he wanted to arrange a meeting. The calendar on my iPhone just wouldn't load at all. Bizarre, really. I had to walk back into the office to view my calendar on a Macbook.
