How to make copyright symbol on the iPad?

Go into the keyboard settings and create a shortcut.

So when you enter cp it will be replaced with ©. I tried to creat the shortcut with (c), bit it would not work.

Use the free app Fast Keyboard

Just to follow up on this old thread, the copyright, TM and registered symbols are available in the Emoji keyboard, which can be enabled in Settings->general->Keyboard->Keyboards->Add New Keyboard.

These symbols will show up for anyone, even if they are not on an iOS device, they're ascii symbols and not pictures like the rest of the emojis.

Tip: if you use these symbols lots, add the emoji keyboard, open up any text editor and type in those symbols. They'll now be in the "recently used" section of the emoji keyboard for faster access.

Notice a lot of time has gone by since the question was posted, but I had wondered the same thing for several months. Noticed the simple answer at another site. You just hit "option+G" and it inserts Copyright symbol. Hope it also works for everyone else!

Where exactly are you seeing an 'option' key on an iPad then?

So sorry snozdop - I had been going through a number of forum comments and thought this discussion was also about adding © when using macbook pro. I don't have an iPad so perhaps one does need to install an app to pull that off. Perhaps after two years Apple has already solved this for you!

Scott-Weaver's "option+" comment does work on the iPad if you have a bluetooth keyboard. Very helpful if you don't want to bring up the onscreen keyboard to add a special character.

If you have a keyboard to use with the iPad you can press alt or option g for the copyright symbol and alt or option r for ®. If you push alt or option it will give you special characters for each button.

Thanks for opening up options. I just took a look at this app and it's outdated. Last update 12/6/2012.
