FaceTime unable to activate

I have an iPod touch 4g on which I have been trying to activate FaceTime. Every time I try I get the message "Could no sign in. Please check your network connection and try again." I have tried creating a new account and port forwarding and still can't get it to work. Any suggestions on what else to try?

iPod touch 4g, iOS 4

I had the same problem as every one else with the activation of FaceTime. The only way that I was able to fix this problem was to go to an Apple store and activate your account using their wifi and servers. Now that my account is activated, Facetime works at my wifi locations. Forget this idea of playing with router setting or creating new user accounts. That does not work. Just go to Apple and use their wifi and servers. It will and does work.

I had the exact same problem and was very frustrated. Followed the advise above and went to the Apple store. Did not need to talk to anyone. Just connected to the store's wifi. Then was able to activate Facetime no problem. Got home and connected to my wifi. Face time is still active and seems to me OK. Just waiting for a friend with facetime to be available to complete the test. But so far so good.

My problem with FaceTime is a bit similar but kinda different. I just got an iPod touch 4 and now I can't access FaceTime because a message keeps popping up "your username and password don't match" on the Apple ID I'm using. Yet the Apple ID username and password are correct and I had to change my password again!

I guess it must be the Wi-Fi I'm using at the college I'm attending classes at. I know they have a Barracuda web filter so they're firewall must be blocking VoIP over Wi-Fi connections, which ***** and may be the reason why Gmail calling wouldn't work over Wi-Fi. FaceTime is a great idea but it should be available over 3G and/or provide some way to bypass firewalls. I wonder if there's any iPod touch or iOS 4 compatible proxy servers I can use.

The only advice I can give is call Apple at 1-800-APL-CARE or figure out how to use the proxy settings and find proxy servers that might help.
