iOS 4
Thanks paul_pittsburgh !!! - I followed your instructions and it was easy and simple!
I'm surprised that no one here or in other iPhone forums have explained how to do shut off Pandora on the iPhone 4. The answers above dance around the technique but fail to give the correct answer.
First, tap the home button once (yes, once), to display the screen with all your apps icons. This is critical. The Pandora application is not filling the screen, the screen has all your app icons, as usual. Next, tap the home button twice (yes, twice). The screen will change, and icons for running apps will appear at the bottom of screen. Tap and hold the Pandora icon until the icons begin to shake. A small red button will appear in upper-left corner of each app icon. Tap the red button for Pandora. Pandora will shut down. Simple, eh?

The second post of this thread (Mr. C UK) already explained it in the exact same manner as you. In fact, discussion of this method is what most of the thread is about.
I hope my post clarifies how to do this. I will be interested to learn if other people can follow the second post and succeed.
Why exactly did you feel the need to dig up a thread that is almost a year old to post the EXACT SAME THING as another user?
Your posting serves absolutely no purpose.
Thank you Paul_Pittsburgh for your detailed explaination. The previous comments led me to delete the app all together, thanks to YOU I was able to shut down various apps without deleting them. I am new to the iPhone and found your comment the most helpful!
I am assuming you just want to stop the music.
If so, then I would just go to the Pandora app and hit the pause button.
Or, if I was in another app (or on one of the navigation screens),
1 - double click the Home button
2 - swipe the multi tasking bar to the right and hit the pause button
That way when you want to listen again you just unpause the app instead of having to start it again.

Good Answer this worked!
I have tryed this and when I try to restart pandora it asks me if I am a current user or new . When I try to pick one nothing happens. Help please
marlatucson, read the rest of the thread. After you've read it, you'll understand why paul_pittsburgh "suggestion" is pointless.
