Q: Can't delete songs from my iPhone 4

Hello,
I'm unable to delete songs from my iPhone 4.
I tried to do it by un-checking the song in iTunes then
performing a sync with phone.

I thought that would remove the song but it did not work.

Am I not doing this correctly.
Any ideas?

Thanks!

12xbl - thanks, I tried that.  The bar at bottom that shows how much space is used by each reflects the change and goes to 0.01GB for audio, until I hit Sync or Apply.  When it is finished syncing the bar goes back up to Audio 18GB and none of the music is removed from the iPhone.  This is the same if I uncheck everything or if I deselect sync music.

    Thoughts on what's wrong?

I'm having a similar problem. My iphone says it will delete all music and resync music back on but it doesn't delete any. It just keeps adding copies of songs I already have one there :/

    @drraspberry

Just hold for a second and tap to the left on the song or album you wish to delete in your iPhone and you get an option for Delete on the Right of that album/song. Just hit the delete and the particular item will be deleted.

I had the 'No way to delete song from iPhone' frustration in iTunes 10 with my iPhone 4.  Music tab setting I have Sync Music checked, with 'Selected playlists, artists, etc.' checked.  Then I had dragged some extra songs into the iPhone.  These I couldn't delete by clicking on the phone's song in iTunes.  I discovered Waaaay at the bottom of the Music tab a window called "Manually Added Songs."  Bingo.  Delete 'em from there.

    Best,

    Dear readers,

Below is a screen shot solution...it's just a technical issue, you just have to be smart enough to find the answers. Under the Summary menu, just tick the Manually manage music and videos, then click Apply button on the right bottom conner, just under the Sync button. Now you're ready to,drag and drop music into your iPhone. You can delete songs, edit songs and even add lyrics,it works great. Now under the Music menu,i unchecked Sync Music because its really annoying, each time i plug my iphone to the computer,it immediately starts syncing and usually delete and replace my songs...so i advice you to uncheck it instead of having same difficulty every time. Best thing is to manage the Music yourself...so good luck people.

Thanks Teira, but this was one of the first things I tried.  It looked like it worked, but as soon as it was complete and I looked on the iPhone the music was all still there.  iTunes was showing that the music was removed, but it wasn't actually removed.  Thanks though.

Hi Zblom, i think you should uncheck the Sync music under the Music menu... that's

if you really want to manually manage your music. I had same difficulty before i realise that itunes automatically sync music into my iphone each time i plug it to the computer. Mine works perfectlyly now,i can delete add and edit songs manually and it remains accurate when i unplug the phone from the computer. I never sync,i manually manage because whenever i sync,it replaces and disorganize everything. Oh,i also make my own custom ringtones and i manage it all by myself.

@teira_lady, I am having the sameproblem as the other posts.  Your post assumesthat we are too stupid to do the main two things that would delete all thesongs is insulting.

I tried manually deletingall my songs and i tried turning off the sync. It will act like it is doingwhat it is supposed to do then after it’s all over all the songs are stillthere.  It is not only frustrating doingwhat you are supposed to do and it not working, but it makes it worse when you havesomeone telling you that you must not be doing it right or just telling us todo the same bloody thing we have been trying.

If anyone knows how to fix this please let me know.  I don’t want to have to reset all the songs.

@ 4th Umpire, That is great for one or two songs…what about if you want delete 200 songs at a time?

I am also having this problem, ...with 19GB's of music, ..and I am a programmer so i promise you, like above, we have been through ALL of the basic steps.

This is a bug because iTunes has removed the playlists, but it is as if the music is not longer associated with the playlists, ..so when it thinks it is removing ALL music it is only removing the plylists and leaving the files, ...but, iTunes thinks it IS removing the music (or supposed to be) hence the bar drops down to indicate new space, ...but when the sync is finished it does a little check on space, ..and oh surprise, ..it is full so it pops back up.

Am I seriously going to have to manually delete 4000 songs from my iphone. !!

    'cmon Apple, .acknowledge the bug.

..and anyone else who is about to suggest ticking or unticking ANYHTING in iTunes, ..please read this thread in full first !!

Having identical problem. Had been syncing phone with home Macbook Air and decided to start syncing with office Macbook Pro. Only noticed this oddity when I had (thought I had) finished the migration; saw that there was some screwiness going on with song counts and then realized that there was 10 GB of music on the phone that iTunes wasn't seeing. Did the check/uncheck of Sync Music; the space from songs would go down to zero then back up to 10GB as noted by another poster.

Currently am in the middle of restoring phone after a complete wipe (Settings>General>Reset>Reset settings and media). Will report on how that goes...
