Connection errors with Pioneer AVH P3100DVD Car Stereo after iOS4.1 Update

I just upgraded to iOS 4.1 and now my Pioneer AVH P3100DVD car stereo has a "skipping" problem like a record or CD with a scratch in it when connected to my iPhone 4.

I've tried disconnecting the USB cable, restarting both my iPhone 4 as well as my car stereo - nothing seems to work. Think of it as watching a streaming video having buffering issues, you hear about a half second of audio, then it drops out, then another half second of audio, drop out, etc.

Plugged in my Classic iPod which still works fine so I know it's not the stereo unit or the cable connection. Has to be something caused by the new software upgrade?

Worked flawlessly with my iPhone 4 up until installing the upgrade yesterday and now haven't been able to find a remedy to the problem. It's as if the stereo keeps dropping the connection every half second.

Anyone out there with the same problem and found a remedy?

MacBook Black, Mac OS X (10.4.11), iPhone 4 running iOS 4.1

I've had this same problem with my iPhone 4 and OS 4.1. I may have solved the issue, but I'm not sure. Try putting a headphone jack to headphone cable into your Iphone's headphone jack. Do NOT plug it into your stereo head unit. Then plug your iPhone into the USB connection like you normally would. Turn on your music and then unplug the headphone jack. You may have to fiddle around with it, but it has worked for me. I think the issue is with the headphone jack communicating with the iPod part of the phone that it's not wanting to play music through the haedphones, but through the USB cable. I know this is kind of confusing, but I think it'll help y'all. Good luck and let me know if anything else works for y'all.

Trooper, thanks for the suggestion - tried it but didn't work. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason (or pattern at all) to when the drop outs are occurring. Some times it's once every minute, sometimes it's every half second. Haven't been able to figure out under what conditions I'm getting what results.

Strangely, even when the iPhone is in pause mode, it's dropping the connection as well (noticeable thanks to the "hiss" the P3100DVD has when on).

My roommate is having the same issue in her non-Pioneer Mazda... this seems to be a widespread issue across multiple platforms, makes, and models. Hurray!

Funny thing is that it's so sporadic and has differing levels of error. Sometimes I can get in my car and it'll play fine only skipping once every minute or so. Other times I can plug into my car stereo and it won't even sync/control/play at all. Other times, it'll play but skip every second or half second. I haven't been able to replicate any conditions or find any reason why certain syncs are giving me differing results.

Hard resets, already having iTunes on and playing, the previously mentioned headphone trick, each time every thing seems to have a different result.

Now THAT'S a bug.

Ok. So it's not just me and my Pioneer...
I tried everything to get either my iPhone4 and/or 3rd gen Ipod to work error free but was unsuccessful with both. It was like I had a turntable hooked up and driving off road. I even went to Pioneer to check on a firmware update for the head unit (is that even possible?). I don't think my solution will work for everyone though. I bought an Alpine iDA-X305S digtal media receiver. Works flawlessly no matter what I hook up to it. Not really a solution for some but it is an option.

LOL...I am happy that I am not the only person to have this problem.
Here is my thread.

I too have the same problem with the same Stereo. Except...I have had this problem once before on iOS 4.0.1 When I received my phone new from the factory, it had 4.0.1 on it. It had this problem with my 3100DVD radio too. However when I did a restore on my phone, it fixed it up to a point. I could listen to Pandora without any skips. My ipod would only work without skips if I setup the radio to give the IPOD controls.

Ever since I "Upgraded" to 4.1 it skips on my stereo no matter what I do. I haven't had a chance to do a restore yet. When I do one, I hope that it will work again.
