Hi all

I am thinking of buying my first MBP, the 13 inch aluminum one. I am impressed with the mac os and looking forward to use this laptop, but I there is one thing I'm uncertain about.

Is the MBP a good device to play HD movies with on my TV via HDMI, or use as musicplayer in the living room?

I understand I would need an adaptor cable (miniport to hdmi) for that, but besides that, will the MBP be a good choice as a media player?

Will it not get too hot, or be too slow, or will there be too much hassle using a remote control?

At the moment I am using a XBOX1 with XBMC to stream my movies over the network, and listen to music with. In short: will I be happy when I use the MBP for that?

Many thanks!

none ...yet!

Personally, the 13" MBP would be overkill. It'll cost you $35 for a Mini Display Port to HDMI connector for your MBP. For another $64 you can get Apple TV and do what you want. With the Apple TV, you can use your Mac to run the network.

I'm not an expert on the new Apple TV, so I'd check it out, but networking that with your MBP might give you some awesome power over your media.

I would get an Apple TV along with the MacBook. If you just want the latter though, you can use an app called Plex - http://plexapp.com/ to give you that "Apple TV" experience.

I agree that the MBP is oversized for only playing media but I think the Apple TV is not capable of playing 1080p full HD...
