Can the iPod 6th Gen. be completely turned off ?
There is a Sleep/Wake switch but NO On/Off switch.
How do you turn it completely?
Thanks

I have done exactly what the support page states, pause the music and hit the sleep button to put it in sleep mode. However, every time I start the Nano again, the battery is drained. This is more than annoying, but pretty much makes the IPOD useless. I am ready to return it, and I have only had it for a week.

Did you perchance start and listen to the radio and not turn it off?

If not then exchange it, there is something wrong with your Nano. I pause mine on Monday night with a 3/4 charge, hit the sleep button, left it alone until noon today, woke it up and it had...3/4 charge.

You have got to be kidding??? What kind of a joke is this I have discovered AFTER purchasing the Nano? I guess since the 2 Nano's I have just purchased are engraved no return?
I think I should have done a little more homework and found this thread...

So what problem are you having with your Nano's?

Ok so I had a fiddle with my ipod and have figured a way to minimize battery consumption for the ON/OFF discussion. Mine has lasted about 2 & 1/2 days (somehow) only on the sleep mode. When playing music it seems we all pause music and then sleep the ipod. Try this when you want to maximize your battery life when not in use. Exit mp3 playback and go to the radio function, then when it starts to play, press the STOP icon and remove headphones, then SLEEP the ipod. This seems to help me as i only tend to use my ipod at the gym every few days. Hope this works for this frustrating and obvious problem until the update.

Use the feedback link that is in this thread and send it in. Or just hit pause and the sleep button and leave it alone. It will eventually go into sleep mode, in the meantime it will use an insignificant amount of battery.

Unbelievable! I couldn't believe the quick start paperwork that comes with the nanno 6th gen didn't mention that it CAN'T be turned off. How about at least mention there isn't an off feature so I didn't have to go on a major hunt for this info??? Also, had gone on to the website given and it didn't even HAVE the 6th generation listed. Really regretting I swapped my 5th generation for the 6th!!!

You do know your 5th Generation can't be turned off either, right?

Go to youtube and search for the video of a guy showing you how to turn off your 6th gen nano. It's ridiculous that we have to jump through such hoops in order to turn the thing off but it really can be turned off.

And keep complaining to apple. They should be able to offer a patch that allows the user to choose how long to allow sleep mode before complete shut off. Just like you do with your computer. How simple would that have been...

I doubt they'll add it..as mentioned the last nano you could actually power down was the 2nd gen.

this is Apple remember..they have a different definition for simple.

I went to the gym this morning only to find that the battery in my new nano was dead again. I put in on the charger Sunday night, took it off the charger Monday afternoon and only used it for about 1 1/2 hours before stopping everything and putting it in my gym bag Monday night. Wednesday morning, the battery was dead. This was the second time this has happened to me under similar conditions. I called Apple support and was told that it was expected for the battery to be dead after 2 days and that I should put it on a charger when not in use. This answer was beyond ridiculous. I find it hard to believe that Apple would design something that was so out of touch with the wants and desires of their users. I did send a comment to Apple via the link listed above.

Just to be clear, you turned off the radio, pressed pause and pressed the sleep button and it was dead 2 days later? Did you unplug your headphones also.

No way it should be dead in 2 days, mine certainly doesn't do that. I'd make a Genius Bar appointment and get it exchanged.
