How do I group (hide) columns or rows?

I am desperately trying to leave Excel. Is there an equivalent command to Column Group or Row Group in Numbers? I have been using the Hide Column or Hide Row command but is much more can be time consuming and complicated when you need to constantly Group (hide) and Ungroup (unhide) Columns or Rows.

I really don't understand what is the link
between Group and Hide
and between unGroup and unHide.

If you want shortcuts for these features, they are already defined for Group (cmd + option + G)
and for UnGroup (cmd + option + shift + G)

Hide and UnHide aren't available from the menu bar but from the contextual menu.
We may link shortcuts to them exactly as we may do for 'standard' menu items *_but, to be able to trigger them, we must reveal the contextual menu_* so, I'm not sure that it's really useful to define such shortcuts.

The nearest equivalent to Excel's Group & Outline feature is Numbers' Categories feature. For the most part the two are nothing alike, and it only applies to rows, not columns. So the answer is that there is no equivalent feature in Numbers. You will have to select and hide them. I do not believe there is are keyboard shortcuts for hiding rows or columns and it is not in the menu system so I don't think you can create shortcuts for it.

Just today I have spent about 30 minutes looking for a similar feature in Numbers. According to a poster above there isn't one. It's a bummer, because I too would love to leave Excel.

_Go to "Provide Numbers Feedback" in the "Numbers" menu_, describe what you wish.
Then, cross your fingers, and wait _at least_ for iWork'11 😉
