Headset Won't Connect

I bought a Sony DR BT101 Headset at an apple store in order to use it with my mac book pro running snow leopard. However, I have run into an problem while using it. It is paired with my computer and all so that is fine. When I go into to bluetooth part of the menu bar and tell it to connect to the headset, it works fine. However, I want to be able to just turn the headphones on and the computer automatically connects to them. When looking at the system preferences, I turned the headphones on. It then continued to display that it was connected, then not, then connected, then not. This happens on a pattern of about a change every 2 seconds. In the end, they do not actually get connected, and no sound is heard. What is the problem here?
