Where did my Memory Go?

this might be in one of the forums here, but i don't have time browsing all through it, but guys i need your help.

I'm confused and aggravated. my mac is only 8 months new, with about only a few applications and about 20GB of files (documents, music, 2 movies files) and it already taken up about 90GB of my memory!!! I get it if maybe if 30GB... but where did the 60GB go???!??!!!!

where can i see the files that took up much space? how can i, i dunno? delete it??

HELP Please.

I'm also a new mac user, so detailed instructions/answers is much appreciated.

Thank You!!!!

I think you are confusing the term memory with storage. Memory is commonly associated with the RAM a computer has and storage associated with the hard disk. When discussion it's best to use the correct terminology to avoid confusion.

If you want to see what is occupying your storage it's best to navigate Finder in the list view. Remember with any computer storage is going to be used by the operating system, applications, data files (music and photos use a lot!!!) and don't forget your trash can if you haven't emptied it. A trash can on your computer is kind of like one in the house. If you have some stuff on a shelf then decide you don't want it and throw it in a trash can inside the house your house is just as full as it was before. If you really want to make more room throw the trash out. How you do that on your MBP is to simply hover your mouse over the trash can hold down the mouse button and it will ask if you want to empty the trash.
