I currently have an older iMac running Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.11) which I use sync my second generation iPod Touch. I know I can't download iTunes 10 because it requires at least Leopard, so I'm stuck with iTunes 9, which is fine. However my question is if I update my iPod Touch to iOS 4.1 will iTunes 9 still recognize the device? From what I've read it seem's like iOS 4.1 requires iTunes 10, but my current version of iTunes 9 states that iOS 4.1 is available to download, would it be wise to update the iPod or just stay with 4.0?
Intel iMac,
Mac OS X (10.4.11),
20 Inch 2.0GHz 512 MB DDR2 SDRAM Intel Core Duo Ipod 5th Gen 30 GB
iOS4.1 requires iTunes 10 and Leopard 10.5.8 or higher. What you need to do is upgrade from Tiger to Leopard. You can call AppleCare Customer Service to inquire about ordering a copy from them. Or you can try Amazon.com or eBay.
My iTunes 9.2.1 (on MacBook with 10.4.11), when I click "update" to update iPhone software to 4.1 (which is declared as available and asks me if I want to update), replies with a happy message that informs me iTunes is up-to-date... which so far has just annoyed the **** out of me, but not helped in any way to update the iPhone... there's no other way to do it besides the **** button, and said button doesn't work.
It looks almost like a joke: click "update your phone", and the answer is that your computer is up-to-date!
Metall... a friend of mine has the same problem and she might upgrade her iPod software with my Mac + iTunes 10... question is: after the iPod has been upgraded, will iTunes 9 still be able to handle it?
Yes, after the update via iTunes 10 I went back to my PowerBook and itunes 9 could still see the iPhone, knew that it was at 4.1 and when I did a check for updates it said that the phone was up to date, with no mention of itunes.
Great, nice to know this... I'll roll back for now. I can't upgrade to Leopart yet. Stupid Apple, really, bringning us this problem. What are their issues anyway?!
I upgraded my iPhone to iOS4.1 no problem. I suspect you've tried to upgrade when OS4.1 is no longer available as the latest upgrade. I guess iTunes is programmed to points at the latest upgrade file so it sees iOS4.2 when asked to look for an upgrade. It would make sense if iTunes looked for the highest upgrade it can utilise, then it would find iOS4.1.
yea I'm having a problem with this to I've got ox s 10.4.11 and itunes 9.2.1 and an ipod touch third gen. 32 gb after having my ipod for a while i plugged it into my computer (a powerbook g4) and itunes crashes every time its connected, i reset my ipod and tried to restore it, which updated it to 4.1, and it will not let me restore my ipod and itunes still crashes when i plug my ipod in unless i put it into recovery mode, I've reset, and restored my ipod many times and i don't know what to do. currently my ipod is useless. and it seems that i have to buy ox s 10.5 so i can up grade to itunes 10 so i can use my ipod again...? is there any other way? to fix this?
