entire backup of one iphone & restore to new iphone?

Hi all, bit of a noob question here and im sure you guys get this often..

unfortunately i managed to break the screen of my iphone 3gs (thank heavens for insurance!) lol i have a new one turning up tomorrow morning but i really want to keep everything the same as it is now

is there a way i can mass backup the entire phone and just restore it so everything is exactly the same when i receive the new iphone?

ie - keep all my messages, emails, contacts, apps, photos, everything all the same

once i have managed to do that i need to remove all the data off my old iphone as the postman will be making the swap and my old broken phone will be returned to apple/orange and i dont really want them to look in all my emails/photos/contacts etc...

thanks for your help!

Luke

When you get your new phone, connect your OLD phone to itunes & right click the phone in the device pane. Select "Backup". Once complete, eject your OLD phone and connect your "NEW" phone. You should be given the option of setting up as new or restoring from backup. Select restore from backup & select the backup you just made. Follow this by syncing your itunes content to your new phone. When finished, eject your NEW phone & verify all the data from your OLD phone is present, The only things that won't be restored are passwords for email, WiFi, etc. These are not restored for security reasons. Once you've verified your data is present on your NEW phone, on your OLD phone go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings. That should take but a minute or two & your old phone will look just like it did when it first came out of the box with all of your data securely erased.

3rd party app settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app is included with your iPhone's backup. This will include your WhatsApp settings and messages.

Messages with the Messages app are also included with your iPhone's backup.

Email account settings are included with your iPhone's backup but not any messages. With a POP account, all received messages that remain on the server will be downloaded again as new and unread messages. All messages in server stored mailboxes with an IMAP account will be downloaded again including read/unread status for received messages since all server stored mailboxes with an IMAP account are kept synchronized with the server.

Although photos and videos in the iPhone's Camera Roll are also included with the backup, all photos and videos in the Camera Roll should be imported by your computer.

This link provides the data included with your iPhone's backup.

Hi there ... i think i have a similar problem but after reading your posts realise i have made a mistake and registered my new i phone 4 as a new device. I now can't get back to my old itunes account for my i phone 3 with the back up on it.

Does anyone know how to get my information from my iphone 3 to my new iphone 4 ? if i connect the 3 it comes up with my account and backup, as soon as i connect the 4 i have no backup. Im worried i will end up blanking everything !!!

Please heeeeelp !

Thanks Roy

If you go to iTunes, preferences, then devices you will see all your back up files.

Determine which is the most recent one you want to restore to.

Then I found and followed this article found on the apple website:

iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software
You can manually back up or restore your iPhone or iPod touch from a backup . To do so, Control-click or right-click the iPhone or iPod touch icon on the left side of the iTunes window and choose "Back Up" http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

Except in stead of choosing back up I chose "Restore From Back" told it which back up I wanted and it seems to have worked for me.

Hope it helps you too!
