Google appears in russian, is this a bug?

Even when
accessing google.com by typing http://www.google.com
in the address-bar the same thing happens.

Are you totally sure you are getting Russian? If not, you could have a font conflict. Send me a screenshot if you like (click on my name for the address).

This site will tell you the language settings of your browser, in case they have somehow gotten messed up and it is asking for Russian:

Oh yes. This always happens to me when I use the browser (does not matter what one) the "very first time". I am in Tokyo and it comes up a google home page in Japanese. But there is a button somewhere on the bottom, right hand side, saying something like (from memory) "Use google in English". Click on it and the problem solves.

To the right of the input box on Google's main page are three links. The middle one is to your Google preferences (presumably set in a cookie).

At the top of the preference screen is a pull-down menu in which you can choose your native language (including such odditities as Elmer Fudd, Hacker and Klingon.) If you can work out which one is English from the Cyrillic Script, you could try changing it there.

Alternatively, maybe cleaning out your Safari cookies (from Preferences/Security/Show Cookies might help.

You do seem to be on the Russian page. Try going to the preferences and seeing if that will fix anything

Try turning off Helvetica Inserat if its active - It worked for me. Failing that, I would suggest another cyrillic face is conflicting.

The screenshot the original poster sent me indicates that he is on an actual Cyrillic page (I think it's Ukrainian rather than Russian) and not experiencing font substitution.

Having said that, it may be that your problem is not the same as mine.

Should have added: on the Google preferences page, the button at the top right is "Save Preferences" in English.
