iChat error 8

My husband and I have been using iChat when he is out of town. For whatever reason, tonight it keeps giving us error 8. Internet sharing is off and we are plugged directly in to the internet at our locations. No matter who sends the invites it says one of the two of us never responded. We haven't changed any settings on our computers since we chatted last week. Could it be something with my husband's hotel internet? Any suggestions?

Hi,

Welcome to the  Discussions

Hotels are notoriously difficult.
Most often they only have basic Internet ports open for Mail and Web Browsing.
This may be to reduce the amount of Bandwidth anyone person can grab.

If you have not already try setting iChat Menu > Preferences > Video Section > Bandwidth limit to 500kbps
It has a slight choice of working.

If you have iChat 5 at both ends you could also try the option in the Accounts Preferences to route the Video through the AIM servers.

With the Above it may pay to go to the Server Settings tab and set the port to 443 (you have to Log out first).
Press Enter to "Set" the port change in iChat 5

Port 443 is used by some Mail Servers and secure Web sites plus it is below the 1024 threshold which will be open in most routing devices.

Good luck with this. (the above are only possibles)
