How To Make A Hot Link?

How do I make a one word hot link, using Apple Mail, without pasting the complete URL?

You are referring to a hyperlink and you can't with Jaguar/Panther Mail but Tiger Mail does support this.

Allan, you said Tiger does support it, but how. I wuld like links and emails i type in Mail to go as hot links, but do not know where that setting is. Can you make the text of a mail address )i. e. johndoe@isp.com) automatically convert to a hot link like Word will do? new to Tiger, but 20 years on a mac. Thanks

Try the menu item, edit | add hyperlink. You can either change the text after or select some before choosing the menu item.

I am running Panther (OS X 10.3). Even complete URLs that I cut and paste into a mail message (such as http://www.apple.com/) using the built in Mail app do not show up as active (i.e. they're not clickable) on the receiving end. My friend reads the messages using Outlook 2003 running on Windows XP Pro. He tells says my mail messages are the only ones in which the links are not clickable.
