Safari default FTP program.

Hi,

Hopefully someone can help with this simple question.

I currently have Speed Download and Transmit FTP clients installed on my Mac.

At the moment, when I click on a download link in Safari sometimes it just pops into the Safari Downloads window but sometimes it launches Speed Download.

Is there anyway to make Safari launch Transmit FTP instead of Speed Download?

Also, is there anyway to get Safari to always use the FTP clients?

Thanks

Gavin

HI Gavin,

SpeedDownload is not compatible with Safari.

Sorry....

In fact, SpeedDownload has caused Safari to crash for many users, see results of a search here.

Unless you have the original folder for the SpeedDownload app which includes the uninstaller, you'll need a utility to remove it from your hard drive.

Get AppZapper It's free.

Sorry I dont think I am explaining myself correctly.

I have just purchased some software and the developer has just sent me the link on where to download it, it starts with: https://nickcates.cartloom.com.

When I click this link in mail, Safari opens a web page, launches SpeedDownload and starts the download.

What I would like is for Transmit to launch instead of SpeedDownload.

I have just AppZapped SpeedDownload and clicked the same link and nothing happens.

For instance, I received a link via email for software that I purchased telling me to >click here< to download.

When I do this Safari opens a page then I start to see SpeedDownload bounce in the dock and the download begins in SpeedDownload.

I would like Transmit (if possible) to launch and handle the download rather than SpeedDownload.

I agree that SpeedDownload has been a nuisance and have now removed SD but it seems that Sarafi needs some sort of FTP client as right now if I click on the links I received in my email to download the software nothing happens, if I re-installed SD that launches again so there must be a setting somewhere or a plugin that is telling safari to launch SD?
