File Sharing Check Box Unchecks Itself

Just got a MacMini and already have a Macbook. When I turn on file sharing for the Mini and leave System Preferences, the checkbox is unchecked when I return.

Also, if I check the 'File Sharing', I will see it from my Macbook in Finder but when I click on it, Mini, it says connection failed and it disappears.

I tried reinstalling the OS on the Mini but the problem remains.

Mini, Book, Airport, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

I'm in the same boat on this one, but with specific regard to using SMB. Worked before I left for vacation, came back and it's not working.

Inside Sharing, go to Options - is "Share files and folders using AFP" clicked? Once I click mine, File Sharing is again enabled.

However, I need to "Share files and folders using SMB" - and that box won't stay checked, even though I can turn ON the specific account I want to share, enter that password, and get a check mark there. But the files aren't sharing.

'tis annoying as heck.

Open the Terminal and enter the following command:

sudo cat /private/var/db/launchd.db/com.apple.launchd/overrides.plist

After providing your password, the command will print the contents of the file to the terminal window. Check the list to see if the key "com.apple.AppleFileServer" has "true" underneath the associated "Disabled" key.

If the service is set up to run (enabled) then the "Disabled" key should have "false" underneath it.

Are there any error messages output in the "Console" utility when you try to enable or otherwise use the file sharing feature? Have you tried using Disk Utility to run a permissions verification/repair on the boot drive?
