Thank you so much Dannopelli for this information below!!
It fixed the problem
If this is an AOL issue try this:
On your iPhone:
-Select Settings
-Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars
-Select your AOL.com account
-Select SMTP from the Account Info Page
-Select SMTP from the SMPT Page
-From the smtp.aol.com page
-Check that the Server is ON
-Check that the Host Name is smtp.aol.com
-Check that your User Name is correct
-Check that you Password is correct
-Check that Authentication is set to Password
-The Server Port should be 587
This worked for me. Thanks very much Scott.

Hi
My wife and I have iphone 4 and had this problem when trying to send emails using AOL. It as said before said relaying not allowed when we were trying to send emails but we could receive emails it was very strange. I came across an explanation step by step on how to fix it. I am no expert so I will leave it to them
The link is
Thanks... your solution was right on!
All of a sudden, I had this problem on my iphone 5, (never had it happen on previous iphones). I turned off WiFi, deleted my two email accounts on my phone, then added them back in, and it was resolved. Works with wifi on or off. : )
Clear and precise, step by step solution to the problem of not being able to send e-mail on your iPhone when the: "email rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying" message comes up. It works. Hearty thanks to Smart-E Pants for taking the time to post it.
Thanks Gerald. This solved my problem with my iPhone 5.
Thanks MikkG

Hi,
I was told there could be a problem with your Outgoing mail server settings and most likley have an Outgoing authentication error with your server. Make sure all your settings comply with your servers suggested settings for IMAP or POP3 etc. Usually located in options of the web version mail.
Most importantly make sure your username and passowrd are correct and added in the Outgoing Mail server
Hope this helps!
Contact your mail server provider for suggest outgoing settings if u can not find them

Call AT&T Customer service. They will direct you in the settings for your outgoing and incoming servers. If the settings aren't correct, they will direct you. It's an easy fix. While cust svc is on the line, click on your email and send something to yourself. If it doesn't go out correctly, they will stay with you to keep troubleshooting until it's fixed.
Hope this helps.
