"server does not allow relaying" email error

Since upgrading to iPhone 4, sending an email always results in the error message "A copy has been placed in your outbox. The recipient "......@...." was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying. This happens regardless of the recipent. It also happens to a friend of mine who still has the iPhone 3G but has updated software. HELP PLEASE.

Throw a random subject in the air like that really matters. But if in fact that was posted 3 1/2 years ago that means we were on what iOS 4 maybe 5?.. Now we are on iOS 7.1!!! Dont you think the features might've changed? moved around a bit?

I havent given much detail but arguably, you admitted I was in fact, right. I just didnt describe how to resolve it. Atleast you know to check your server settings though. what do I look like? your email provider? apple care? google? look up server settings for whatever email provider you have on their website and guarenteed you will find it.
