iPod Touch 4th Gen Battery Issue

My iPod Touch 4th gen drains the battery while sitting idle overnight. I listen to it all day at work with normal battery usage. When I got home I charged my touch to 100% then left it disconnected in standby mode overnight and in the morning the it is down to 50%. I checked and there are no apps running in the background. What on earth is happening? I also have a 3rd Gen Touch, with all the same apps and it does not do this.

I have 2 4th gen Touch and they are both behaving the same way.

Any ideas?

Is it possible that FaceTime is polling or something?

i genuinely believe it's location services as well.

my battery's draining down randomly overnight & i couldn't figure out why.

all day in standby it's been fine.. earlier tonight the ipod wanted to use my location, so i allowed it & then closed down the app.

Location services stayed on ... 4 hours in standby later.. i'm down to half battery.

I purchased my daughter this infamous Ipod G4 32G device for over 300.00 with the lovely 12% tax. I've asked her about the "location devices" and she said they were off, so that's not the solution for our dilemma it seems. The thing that irks me the most is if the battery is drained, why can't we get it going again? It's been plugged into my desktop for over 6 hours and still won't budge. How do you get it to start charging? I've tried the "hold the home key and top keys" at the same time for 10 seconds like they recommend but all i see is the red battery and charging icon for about 5 seconds then it disappears. Any suggestions??

Yes i sure have...she has the previous itouch but only 8G and we have no issues at all with that one. Last night i plugged her G4 into the wall...it finally started to charge, at least i got the Apple icon to show finally (and it told me i had a full charge but it also told me the battery was in the red).. i charged it all night long and to my disappointment, it's dead again 😟

Also having a similar problem. purchased a 32GB 4th Gen touch for duaghter for xmas and now it won't turn on. haven't had a chance yet to try the reset (hold buttons) but she said it would start to turn on at first and then die immediately. now it wont even turn on. we have been using a wall charger too and no charge.

we also purchased a second one on boxing day, now i see why they were on sale. the battery life is terrible. and yes we have turned off location services and use airport mode to reduce wifi interaction when not needed.

we have an ipad too and it's battery lasts much longer despite constant use by our special needs daughter (amazing tool for a non-verbal child). sure it is bigger but it also has a bigger screen to power

It seems like a lot of people have battery issue with iPod Touch 4th Gen. I bought one at Christmas time(32GB).I have not used it very often. there are only two apps on it. Today, I tried to charge it. It would not charge. I tried 4 charge cables(one is for iphone) on three computer's USB ports, and many wall outlets also, It would not work. When I plugged the ipod into the computer, I could use it, but it would not charge. the battery was almost gone completely. I tried to hold power button and home bottom at the same time, I did get the apple icon. But it would not charge. Finally,I had enough. I decided to take it back to the Apple store tomorrow. Meanwhile,I plugged the ipod in to my computer and left it there. suddenly, the battery symbol turned green. I had no idea how it happened. It's charging.I unplugged it from my computer and plugged it into the wall outlet. It was also charging.I don't know if the problem has solved permanently or just by luck. should I still take it back to the apple store? It is under the warranty.

I have had the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gen. Itouch's. All of their batteries always worked great, held a charge for days. But, the 4th generations battery is worthless. I have to turn off the Ipod to conserve the battery. The other day it had a full battery and minutes later it died. I went to charge it and I couldn't even get it to charge. Apple needs to do something to resolve this issue. I have been a long time customer, but now I am very dissatisfied with my purchase. I have the 4th gen with 64GB.

To the person that made the tip about closing the apps on the background, thank you. I was wondering how one could be able to stop apps from running on the background and draining the battery. My battery should last longer now I don't have about 30 apps running at the same time. Will see if battery lasts more than 10 hours while in sleep mode.
Once again, thank you
