iPod Touch 4th Gen Battery Issue

I've got the same problem. Mine is a 4th Gen iPod Touch 64 Gig and I tried starting it up today after not using it for 4 days and it was completely dead. However, I had charged it up completely when I last used it (Sunday), so obviously something is draining the battery even when its switched off.

Looking for answers too....

I'm having the same problem as well....with a 3G. It started happening after the upgrade to the IOS4. Except for one or two other post, I'm not seeing any complaints, so I'm not sure whats causing the problem.

I've read that even if you don't use your device and your device is fully turned off the unit will still drain the battery down even when completely turned off believe it or not the battery still drains down.

My 3rd generation lasts longer than my 4th generation.. which is obviously brand new.. I try to not have many apps open when i'm not using it, i know its easy to do... but seriously.. I charged mine last night, used it a lil this morning, went to work for 6 hours and it was dead.. and no, nothing was playing.. or music or anything. 😟

This is an issue many people have had on the older iPods. I have a 3rd Gen, but I think it's the same issue.

I actually went so far as to wipe out my iPod and set it up as a new device with no apps, music, video, etc to troubleshoot this issue.

I had tried the normal stuff people recommended like turning off push mail, notifications, etc. Nothing helped.

I found through all my troubleshooting that the "Location Services" is what is causing the battery drain. It is constantly looking for WIFI access points around you to determine your location. Since the iPod doesn't have a GPS in it, it uses the wifi.

Turning off "Location Services" made the battery go back to normal for me.

I am having the exact same problem. I even wiped out my ipod touch, took out all the apps, and turned off all notifications, wifi, bluetooth ect... Then I fully charged it to 100% and left it in stand-by all night. The next morning it was so dead, I had to plug it up and wait about 5-10 minutes until it would even turn on. I sent it back to apple, and they sent it back to me, saying they tried to recreat the issue but it never happened to them. I am at my wits end with it now. And when I sent it to apple, I asked them if I should take off the screen protector, because the man on the phone told me they would probable send me a new one. Well, they sent me the old one, so they made me take off a $23 screen protector, just for them to send me back the old one. I could just scream. Oh and did I mention I sent it scratch free, and got it back with a lovely arrangement of scratches on the back. Thanks apple. You will be hearing from me soon. Let me know if ayone else gets this issue resolved.

I have had nothing but good things to say about my 4th generation iPod Touch. Last night I turned on the blue tooth and when I woke up the battery was dead after having a full charge the night before. I'm going to take a wild guess here and say its the blue tooth draining the battery. Previous to this I was able to listen to the device for several days without charging.

and take it back to Apple since they do not have a solution after five months of being notified. Aski for a full refund and if they do not agree send them to the above thread.

Why do you keep citing the discussion that relates to updating iOS4 on older iPod. It does not really apply to the 4G iPod.

I'm having the same battery problem!! the thing was fine when I bought it,, kept the charge just fine.. On standby it would last days,, now after upgrading the OS 4, the battery is dead in about 10 hours on standby, even with NOTHING running, no location services, no bluetooth, NOTHING!! I'm really ****** off about this, I didn't spend 300 bucks to have a dead battery!! My 3ed gen, held a charge for 5 days or more, and like an idiot just upgraded it, I will let you know if it starts having problems, if so, then it is definitely the OS upgrade!!!! APPLE BETTER GET ON THIS OR THERE'S GONNA BE A LOT OF RETURNS THIS CHRISTMAS!!!!!

I have a 3rd gen iPod Touch and have found that the iOS4 really does drain the battery. Two tips to ensure battery life:

1) Stay in Airplane Mode when not using WiFi. This will remove an enormous drain on your battery, as it's otherwise constantly looking for WiFi.

2) Double-click your button to reveal what apps are running. Touch and hold on an app icon to make them all wiggle. This also brings up a little red bubble in their top left corner. Push that to close every unnecessary app. I do this to close all apps after specific use, and my battery life is fine.

So, to sum up... Aside from WiFi, the iOS4 multi-apping is what kills your battery. Use the double-click app manager to close all apps you aren't using. Apps like Music are fine to run in the background, but anything much more complex will be a big battery drain... even in sleep mode.

Wireless devices drain battery life please use airplane mode to save battery life

Yes, wireless devices DO use battery life, unless they are 1, 2 or 3rd gen iPods when it is ios4 that is causing the drain, these devices were fine before 4 came out. Apple need to fix this or lose out to android devices.
