Unwanted words in my dictionary

When i type "kev" i want to write kev - not keV
When i type "hun" i want to write hun - not Hun
When i type "i" i want to write i - not I

How am i able to stop my iphone from auto-correcting these words (and others)?
Without having to turn the full auto-correction feature off as I often mis-spell words and it is very useful for catching my mistakes.

As you can see these words are not 'misspelt' in the true sense of the word, it is just that the iphone always tries to add a capitol in where i would rather have lowercase. Turning auto-capitalization off only turns off the capitalization of words that begin sentences and not these words or names.

- kev is the abbreviation of kevin - i dont want to always have to tap the cancel prompt for keV every time i want to say that name.

- hun is the abbreviation of hunny / honey - but the iphone seems to think that hun deserves a capitol H even when it is not at the start of a sentence.

- I would like to type a lowercase i - as i think the the uppercase I looks too much like a 1.

Thanks,
Fraser.

I have already tried to reset the dictionary, with no avail, the offending words are still there.

I have tried 2 ways to make it learn.

1. typing kev and then clicking the X of the auto-correction 'keV' bubble that appears.
and after 30-40 times i gave up.

2. typing kev and letting it auto-correct then hitting back space and then a different looking bubble with 'kev' in it appears and i tap that.

but again it fails to recognise kev straight away.

An alternative is to disable spelling.
* Settings/General/Keyboard
* You may need to add a second keyboard such as Emoji

On the screen you will see the following options:
* Auto-Capitalization
* Auto-Correction
* Check Spelling
* Enable Caps Lock
* "." Shortcut

They did have on 4.0.X an "Add Word" option, but I can't find it on 4.1 after adding Emoji and a random keyboard.

No, I don't have keV in my contacts, I just checked them all (i dont have very many).
Where else does it pull info from?
I know it pulls info from my imac?
So maybe it is in there somewhere.

What about Hun with a capitol H, even half way through a sentence?
Is that in your default dictionary?

I may try a complete wipe of the iphone.

Thank you for your help

"Hun" is a proper noun. As in "Attila the Hun".

1.a member of any of several Asiatic nomadic peoples speaking Mongoloid or Turkic languages who dominated much of Asia and E Europe from before 300 bc , invading the Roman Empire in the 4th and 5th centuries a.d

"keV" is an abbreviation for kilo-electron volt = to 1000 electron volts

electron volt (plural electron volts) (abbreviated eV)

1. (physics) A unit for measuring the energy of subatomic particles; the energy equal to that attained by an electron moving through a potential difference of one volt. Equivalent to 1.6022 x 10-19 joules.

These are in standard dictionaries and do not come from learning your misspelled words.

Backspace and or tapping on the box with the recommended correction is the only way to work around the issues you are having.

@DaVBMan

Nice idea, but unfortunately didn't help.

@HopiDog

Yeah I knew that hun was a noun, but I didn't think the iphone would insist on capitalising it. Didn't know about keV until I googled it, seems a bit odd that the iphone would insist on a physics abbreviation for a word though.

So your advice on "Backspace and or tapping on the box with the recommended correction is the only way to work around the issues you are having." - will this eventually make the iphone learn the spelling? Or am I stuck with this for the foreseeable future?

Thanks for taking the time to help guys
