epson perfection 1250 scanner

I have a very new iMac running 10.6.4 and connected my ten year old scanner and used the Preview application to operate and it works perfectly until the final scan. The scan preview is as to be as expected, and then I press the scan command and the file image that comes up is tilted, like the horizontal hold gave out and everything slipped flat. Using another old scanner, a HPpsc1210 worked perfectly, a good file resulted. Going to the Epson site they have a program for 10.6 for Apple's image capture program, but I could not locate that program on my HD and when I installed the Epson driver, I could not find where it was installed. And I had the same results using Preview application. Any suggestions for getting the Epson scanner to work?

I know EXACTLY what you mean, by the tilted scan. I had the same problem with my Epson 1260 scanner. The new driver for the scanner does not work; it produces the tilted scan, as you have found out. The old TWAIN driver is no longer supported by Image Capture or any of the apps that run its engine (i.e. Preview).

Fortunately, after several days of trying to fix it, I found a solution. Use the old TWAIN 5.75A driver that you had used with your previous Mac. It will be in the folder /Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources. Copy that folder and its enclosed file "EPSON TWAIN 5.ds" to /Library/Image Capture on your new Mac. You can also download the old 5.75a driver here.

Then download Graphic Converter and install it. After it is installed, right-click its icon, select Get Info, and set it to open using Rosetta Mode.

Then open Graphic Converter. Under the File menu, select Acquire -> TWAIN Acquire. You should then be able to scan using the old TWAIN driver you are used to.

It works for me anyway - perfect scans every time, with no horizontal hold problem!

A further update: Using the Epson scanner driver as described is essential. However I discovered today that in my application folder is Apple's image capture program (somehow I missed seeing it before) and that program works perfectly with the epson scanner and the EPSON TWAIN 5.7.5. And you get the Overview, cropping the scan before scanning, etc. The GraphicConverter application is not necessary.
