Ipod touch 4th gen wifi problem

I just got a new Ipod touch 4th gen and when I went to connect to my internet at home, it connected to the router and showed it had a strong signal but I couldn't use safari, youtube, or anyother app for that matter. Then looked at settings and it would just show the ip address and whatever is under it. My router doesnt have a security password on it and I tried renew lease and then resetting the network settings but it still doesnt help...Can anyone help me out please. I'd greatly appreciate it

Hp, iOS 4

It would help if you identified the model of Linksys router you have.

Cisco has a lot of help information on their site, for example, here is an example of a walkthrough for updating router firmware for one of their router models: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=80&app=vw&vw=1&login=1&docid=0a6881b9 0224439b92c8d8f19ca42e5d_21511.xml

If all this is a bit overwhelming you might want to contact Apple support to get some expert advice in solving your WiFi problem: http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/contact/

Usually when you download a file in Windows you are given the option of saving the file rather than opening it.

However, before updating your router firmware, you should get a handle on what the underlying problem is.

When you think that you are connected to your WiFi network please go to Settings > WiFi > your network name and touch the ">" to get the network connection details. Report back all that you see there, I.e., which of DHCP, Bootp, or Static is set, what is the IP addres, the Subnet mask, the Router, the DNS, What is Proxy set to?

This should help pinpoint the problem.
