iPhone 4 Shattered Glass on front and back.

My screen has cracked, both front and back. I left it on the hood of my car and drove off, realized two miles down the road when it flipped off the hood, hit my windshield and then landed in the road. Nice.
Fortunately it still works, there is no injury to the LCD screen, but of course the glass is shattered front and back.

I did find a website that sells replacement front and back glass, but it would cost $150 for the front, and $100 for the back. http://www.directfix.com/category/IPHONE4.html

There is also another site that sells just the glass.
http://www.meritline.com/plastic-replacement-lcd-digitizer-touch-screen-glass-fo r-iphone-4-black---p-54421.aspx?source=fghdac&

But Ive read on the DirectFix website that you cant replace just the glass. Here is the link for that info. http://www.directfix.com/blog/category/iphone-4g-tips/

So Im not quite sure who is right here. Ive seen on ebay, them selling the glass replacements too.

I actually just ordered from ebay the glass replacements for front and back for a total of $35. I figure if it can be replaced that way, that will be cheaper. If it turns out that I was a sucker, then it looks like Im forking out the $250 to fix it. I will probably try the apple store too, to see what they say.

Has anyone had this problem yet and have tried either of the replacement parts? Any other suggestions?? Thanks!

For the kind of money you're looking at, just go to your closest Apple store. One of two scenarios will happen:

1. They will replace your phone for $199

2. If you're really nice and tell them the truth, they may take pity on you and give you a new phone. They've done that for some people.

THe first price you quoted was $150 for the front and $100 for the back. That's $250. Apple will do a better job for less. And the last option, which you evidently already purchased will not likely be what you thought. The front glass has electronics attached and I would be shocked if:

A. they were up to Apple standards
B. they are something you can replace yourself

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.......

Are you sure that I can get a new one for the same $200 I paid? I went on the website and it said i wasn't eligible to get the phone at that price until Feb. I thought I would have to pay $300. If thats the case, I will definitely bypass replacing the glass and just get a replacement phone of course.

Thanks for the tips. Ill be sure to ask the apple store. 🙂

That *****...These new phones are so delicate, its ridiculous...I ended up getting an OTTERBOX case for mine...Another good option is SquareTrade insurance for it...Think i paid $99 for two years...well worth, especially in your case...

Delicate or not, no phone would do well if thrown from a moving vehicle. But I agree with you that it's unfortunate the OP's did....

Sorry to hear about you iphone Froggyleggs, i really think you're better off taking it to apple and getting it sorted, it'll be fixed to the right standard and besides its cheaper.

I had a situation with my iphone as well just yesterday, i have this very flimsy case on which is more for fashion than protection, i stepped out of the train station and for some weird reasons, my boyfriend decided to surprise me and grabbed me from behind, i wasnt expecting any such excitement and my phone jumped right of my palm, flew several feets forward, tumbled and ended up with a summersault unto the main road, all on solid concrete..had to close my eyes when it was recovered, couldnt bear to see it all smashed up....
Nothing happened..i was shocked..still am,it just gathered dust and that was it...

Good luck with yours..

Defective glass. Bought 3weeks ago. Dropped once from 2 ft while sitting at a football game. Shattered!!! Product should be recalled. Apple wants 200 to replace glass that is 20 times stronger and 30 times stiffer.??? Our ipods have been dropped many times without problem. Obviously didn't do enought product testing. I'm hoping more people will complain. It doesn't seem right to be charged for a defective product...
