Airport wont connect to internet

Trying to set up a wireless network using the airport extreme. Was able to set up the network no problem and the laptop which I am connecting with is able to connect and receives a very strong signal. However the airport base station does not seem to be transmitting an internet signal. The connection works because when it is plugged directly to the computer there is no problem getting internet, only when it is plugged into the base station is there an issue.

Any suggestions?! Thanks in advance!!

Are you plugging the modem into the airport extreme WAN port? when you open the airport utility and look at the internet setting for the extreme, are you getting an IP address from the modem?
A lot depends on your Internet provider as well so it would be helpful to know who that is. Some providers require you to provide them with the MAC address of the device connected to their modem and if you change that device you need to give them the MAC address of the new device.
More info is needed to help you.

Depending on your particular service provider, it may take 15 minutes or longer for your modem and the equipment at the cable company to completely reset so that your modem will authorize a new connection.

Push the reset button on the modem and power it off immediately. Pull the battery if it is easily accessible. Let the modem rest at least 30 minutes.

Power off all the other devices on the rest of your network, order is not important.

Power up the modem first after the power down period and let it run at least 4-5 minutes by itself. Make sure the ethernet cable from the modem is plugged into the WAN (circle icon) port on the AirPort Extreme and then power up the Extreme and let it run 4-5 minutes.

Power up your other devices one at a time letting each run a few moments before you power up the next.

All devices should now be able to connect to the internet. Please post back on your results.

I'm having the same problem. My friend can only connect to my network with limited access and is unable to connect to the internet. He has a PC running vista with service pack 1 I think. Everyone else's computers connect fine. I have called Comcast and they tell me I have a good connection. I'm using the AirPort Extreme (Simul. Dual-Band II). Is it a bad unit or is it something with windows Vista? Any help?

My friends computer will however connect when I turn off all passwords

This is an indication that the Windows Firewall or anti-virus software (or both) are likely blocking the attempted connection.

In XP, the firewall settings are in the Control Panel. Not sure on Vista.

Check the settings on the anti-virus application as well. If the connection has been blocked, you should be able to "Allow" it to connect.
